Li Bai, one of the greatest Chinese poets once sat under a pavilion and stared at the moon, regretting that, while the moon remains the same since ancient times, the world changes every day. This story could have been an inspiration for GBD Architects, when they were working on this luxury villa project in Chongqing.
Guangzhou Du Wenbiao Decoration & Design Company (GBD) is gaining more and more recognition in China and worldwide. Founded in 2013, the studio focuses on providing high-quality interior design services for high-end customers. Their works evoke a new scope of design, mixing oriental traditional art with modern interior design.
The moon is the main theme of the whole project, as the moon and life are repeatedly contrasted. The designers attempted to combine ancient oriental elements with modern design, creating amazing zen-like spaces. This luxury villa project is a place meant to transcend time and space in a beautiful dance of ancient and modern.
The main living space presents a contrast between white and red. Above the fireplace, in the center of attention, there is a bright ball on the wall that looks like a large full moon slowly rising and hanging above the seating area. This high-ceilinged space is filled with three-dimensional composition and geometric shapes, so as to create a poetic area in this luxury villa.
The combination of classical elements and modern geometry blurs the definition of the border between traditional aesthetic and contemporary minimalism. Through subtle composition and cozy color palette, the designers managed to create a perfect calm interior. The dynamics and stasis outline the artistic poetry of the space, depicting the details into the spirituality of life.
In the second living room, the plain white walls and simple black lines create a relatively quiet atmosphere, intended to highlight the gorgeous lacquer painting of swimming fish on the ceiling. This room is kept in the beige palette, with smooth, classic textures and luxury patterns.
The collision of art and vitality adds an aura to space. The painting of a swimming fish, waving their gorgeous tails, looks as if they are about to jump out from the ceiling.
This motif is also present in the dining room, where the round dining table is adorned with an amazing golden fish figurine. The dining area of this luxury villa is simple and corresponds with the style of the rest of the place, creating a calm atmosphere. It’s a perfect invitation to a lovely dinner with family or close friends.
The overall color palette of the girls’ room is warm and romantic, resembling the pink cheeks of a young girl, with a large floral pattern covering the entire background, intended to create a charming image of a beautiful woman surrounded by flowers and playing zither under the moon.
” Sitting alone in a quiet grove, I play my zither and whistle long. In the deep forest, no one knows that the moon is shining. ” – says Li Bais’ poem. The study introduces elements such as birds and shadows, creating a small space full of nature, that adds a bit of a focused atmosphere into the room.
The boys’ room is filled with pastel colors. It presents geometric elements of blue sky and vibrant oranges. There are elements such as the full moon and clouds that resemble childlike images of traveling through the clouds.
The main bedroom features yet another motif from nature, this time is a peacock. The peacock is symbolizes elegance, so it’s tails’ picture is present on the bedroom wall. The Studio added some three-dimensional blocks of color to give the space a richer dimension, while intentionally obscuring the peacock’s tail to give it a more subtle feeling.
The main bathroom walls are marble. Its colors and patterns creates an amazing, yet another wild life atmosphere.
