The Transitional Style in Interiors – 2020 trend

The transitional style is a contemporary combination of tradition and modernity. Interiors in this style are an ideal choice for people who perceive traditional furniture as old-fashioned and too formal, and modern as cold and impersonal. Perhaps the transitional style is just for you. Tradition vs. Modernity – the transitional style The transitional style maintains the perfect balance between classic and modern. It’s usually achieved through simple lines, neutral colors, the use of light, and the warmth that it emanates. The results are very elegant and functional. Due to its simple design, it works in every room. In transitional interiors, we will find both classic furniture pieces and modern glass or metal tables. It is important to use the highest-quality materials, like wood, metal, marble, thick textiles, glass, and mirrors. In transitional style interiors, there is no room for plastics and cheap materials for one season. Also, fabrics are particularly important in building an arrangement. They create a cozy atmosphere, but at the same time give the interiors a chic touch. If we want to introduce ultra-modern objects to such interiors, let them be accessories. Modernity should rather be introduced in accents. Colors in transitional style Because of the combination of styles, it is important to maintain consistent colors. Colors in the interior should be subdued. Whites, beiges, browns, greys, and blues work best. Darker shades like black and navy blue will also fit perfectly. Livelier colours may appear only in accents. The point is that the colours should not overwhelm or dominate. What is important is the feeling of harmony and calm in the interior. Classy and elegant furniture Tradition, as an inspiration for interiors that combine classic solutions and modern dunnage. It manifests itself in a love of forms, appreciation of structures from years ago, or love of oak furniture with a soul that conceals memories. Therefore, pre-war chests of drawers, secretaries with a key, where secrets are finally safe, or stools like from communist kitchens, can be boldly juxtaposed with white brick on the wall or technical lamps in a storage style. The white, smoothly polished furniture in the transitional style assists with the classic crystal glass sideboards. The whole thing resounds in the interior with a consistent character. Materials and decorations In transition style, materials and textiles also play an important role. Coarse fabrics, natural fibres and a mix of matt and glossy finishes complete the effect in the room. The floor should have wooden planks, parquet and a pleasant carpet or sidewalk. Natural elements (stone, granite and wood) are the best choice for transitional projects. They play an important role in both traditional and contemporary interiors.Wood can be used on floors, but also on the ceiling. This combination with modern furniture will reveal the essence of the transitional style. These unusual interiors, which seemingly are characterized by contrasts, should be emphasized by accessories. Their role is to clamp the oppositional styles with a composition buckle to create a harmonious whole.Velvet curtains, like a theatrical curtain, complete the interior, where soft lines of old furniture are combined with the minimalist design of the sofa. The factory-style Malmo standing lamp creates a coherent effect with vintage furniture and a white, cool, shiny floor. It is important to have a feeling of harmony and peace in the interior. What is also important, transitional style interiors should not be overloaded. They do not like excess trinkets and decorations. It is better to bet on one expressive object, around which the whole arrangement can be built. The ideal transitional interior is a combination of traditional and modern elements, in which individual accents create the whole taste of the project. The result is a design that is comfortable and classic, yet modern and elegant. We really hope you liked our article. A Tour Through Christian Louboutin’s Penthouse

Christian Louboutin’s penthouse features geometric skylights — and lots of red soles. In the living room of Louboutin’s apartment in Paris, the vintage red sofa and chairs are by Jean Royère. Louboutin noticed metal cat flaps on the roof of a building across the street – that’s what inspired the shape of the skylights. The celebrity shoe designer arranged the windows in a peacock pattern. Christian Louboutin explained to Elle Decor how his longtime friend Jacques Grange, a renowned French interior designer, came to design the space. Apparently, Jacques asked him three questions and said that if he answered them truthfully we would agree to do his apartment. Grange’s three questions were pretty straightforward. ‘Are you messy?’,‘Do you like to host?’ and ‘Do you want an extra bedroom?’”. Christian Louboutin’s answers were simple and direct: “I am not messy. I can host. I don’t want a guest room.” The first response should be carefully interpreted: Louboutin has 50-plus pairs of shoes on his bedroom floor, as seen below. Grange’s created an ample and loft-like living space for entertaining, and also a bedroom “that can be a mess because nobody will see it.” The interior designer used a trick for keeping visits from houseguests short and sweet. He engineered a side bedroom without a door and a bathroom across the hall. Smart, huh? Louboutin’s apartment also reveals his inveterate collecting side, from African masks to kinetic art and Syrian textiles. Organization of spaces is something that’s been on Louboutin’s mind lately. After almost three decades in business, he collaborated with curator Olivier Gabet on his first major museum retrospective, which opened in February at the Palais de la Porte Dorée in Paris. Multifunctional Spaces: Trending in 2020

A home is more than just a place to eat and sleep — it’s where we work, where we play, and where our families blossom. Named by ELLE Decor one of the Key Interior Trends for 2020, if you are looking for a little inspiration to create multifunctional rooms in your projects keep reading. Our spaces need to be as flexible and as varied as we are. Keep reading to find out how to do just that: In the era of open-plan homes and mobile electronic devices, home designs are incorporating more multi-functional rooms into their floor plans. Kitchens with islands become both dining room and workstation. Offices double as guest bedrooms. Due to constrained space, some smaller homes require you to combine room functionality. 1. Side Tables that Double as Seating Side tables can be great multifuncional furnture pieces. They are great places to put a drink, a lamp or a piece of art. But you can also pull them out to make for additional seating when you have guests over. This can be especially effective if tables are stool-like in nature. 2. Combine Dining Room and Kitchen Spaces A kitchen/dining room combination is perfect for modern open floor plans and it allows people to cook and socialize at the same time. Even if you have a separate dining room in your house, you may be best off leaving it for other uses. 3. Convertible Bedrooms Today’s fold up beds have taken it to the next level with some folding up into seamless looking cabinets to provide a sleek, modern look. Fold up beds have long been a great way to create a multi-functional space. They can be taken out at night for sleeping and tucked away during the day. 4. Go for a Modular Lounger Sofas usually steal a lot of space in a living room. Instead of opting for a conventional lounger, try a modular lounge that pulls apart to become end tables or footrests. You can also opt for a sofa that can be reassembled to use as guest bed, for when you have company over. 5. A Tub in the Bedroom This idea may seem somewhat bizarre at first, but by making smart design choices, you can pull it off while creating a space that is logical and well thought out. If you have a tiny bathroom and want space to stretch out and luxuriate in a tub, considering installing one in your bedroom. 6. Creating Indoor Play Areas for the Children Though bedrooms often double as play areas, you can also create exciting multi-functional space – play spaces in loft areas and little nooks and crannies of the house. Indoor play areas are perfect for families who live in locations where it is unsafe to be outside, the weather is bad, or a child’s allergies make outdoor play unpleasant. Your multi-purpose interior project should still feel homey, no matter how many other functions it may serve. You don’t want a bedroom to feel like an office cubicle, nor do you want a laid-back media room to feel like a stuffy, formal dining room. If the furniture has to perform double-duty, make sure the furniture still matches the style and décor you are going for in all of its various configurations. We really hope you liked our article. Biophilic Design in 2020: Reconnecting with nature indoors

What is Biophilic Design? Biophilia (meaning love of nature) focuses on human’s innate attraction to nature and natural processes. It suggests that we all have a genetic connection to the natural world built up through centuries of living in agrarian settings. Biophilic Design uses these ideas as principles to create a human-centered approach that when applied improves many of the spaces that we live and work in today, with numerous benefits to our health and well-being. Incorporating direct or indirect elements of nature into the built environment have been demonstrated through research to reduce stress, blood pressure levels, and heart rates, whilst increasing productivity, creativity and self-reported rates of well-being. Businesses at the vanguard of workplace design, such as Apple, Google, and Amazon, are investing heavily in Biophilic Design elements. These principles are shown to improve worker concentration, engagement, and cognitive ability. Studies conducted over the last 35 years have shown the benefits of adopting a biophilic design.Regarding hospitality design, guests seem to be willing to pay 23% more for rooms with views of Biophilic elements. In retail, the presence of vegetation and landscaping has been found to increase average rental rates on retail spaces, with customers indicating they were willing to pay 8-12 % more for goods and services. The benefits of biophilic design extend to our homes, which can become more calming and restorative. What are the Key Features of Biophilic Design? There are 6 main features to consider when it comes to biophilic design: 1. Natural Environment Features of the natural world should be incorporated into the spaces to create a natural environment. Basic things like earthy colors, sunlight, plants, images of animals, and nature. 2. Natural Shapes Natural shapes are lines, shapes, and forms that occur in nature. Some examples include arches and vaults, recreating rock shelves, water paths, and other things that naturally occur. 3. Natural Patterns Similar to natural shapes, natural patterns deal with patterns and processes that occur in nature. This could be shown through the erosion of rock over time, the growth of plants, and the use of rhythm and scale. 4. Natural Light  Sunlight is healthy and biophilic design puts an emphasis on light and space. Light helps merge the inside and outside using elements of warmth and different shapes. 5. Plants You can focus on real plants, imagery, or plant colors. The idea here is to create a relationship between the space and the natural elements it is incorporating. 6. The Human-Nature Relationship Biophilic design is all about recreating the relationship between humans and nature, that has existed for thousands of years. Interior design hasn’t been the same since biophilia entered the picture. This design trend promises to stay strong during 2020. The biophilia effect proves that humans long for a connection with nature. Biophilic design elements should stimulate more than just our visual senses, offering a multi-sensorial experience. ELLE DECOR spoke with some of the most influent designers, decorators, and architects about the home trends they predict will be IN and OUT in 2020, from color palettes to furniture, even landscape design and beyond. Dark Painted Doors are a part of this list. 1. Dark doors instantly add drama to any space Dark doors are elegant. A white door is expected. But splash on a bit of ebony paint, and you have instant, drop-dead sophistication. Black color makes a stock door look special. Plus, they also look great with dark floors. You can see how dark painted interior doors work with any interior style. Now you have 4 good reasons to bet on them and refresh your interiors with this 2020 decor trend.

Faux Marble Gaining Popularity in 2020

In 2020, a lot of designers will rely on faux marble to add texture, quality and visual warmth to their projects. Wondering why this is on the list of 2020 Trends of ELLE Decor Magazine? While real marble is undoubtedly exquisite, faux marble offers designers other valuable benefits. For one, you don’t have to spend hours searching for the exact right piece at a marble slab provider.  While it is true that it is a very durable natural stone that has been used since ancient times for decorative purposes, it is also a fact that today it is one of the most expensive stones on the market. Faux marble offers lots of other practical advantages. It is gaining popularity, especially for projects where costs need to be curbed or among homeowners, who cannot afford the real stone. If you are curious to learn a bit more about the different types and uses of faux marble, keep reading. 1. What types of faux marble exist and how are they being used? Marble is probably the most imitated stone in the world. Generally, there are three main types of faux marble that are used for home refurbishment: • Faux stoneIt resembles the natural stone but lacks its depth and shine. This is a polymer made of resin and marble pieces. It doesn’t scratch or etch so easily as the real natural stone and is therefore preferred for areas as kitchen tops. • Painted laminate The laminate tiles are painted in a way that mimics the look of marble. If you are going for a fabulous floor resembling that made of natural stone, this is one of the options.Laminate is cheaper and easier to install compared to marble tiles. • Faux marbling or marbleizing  It’s a technique for covering the surface with paint that resembles marble. You can choose any of the options above, depending on the project you have in mind. It is possible to combine the different techniques in order to achieve the result you are looking for. 2. Authentic Marble or Faux Marble: which is the Best Solution? Marble will be far more sturdy and far more expensive than faux marble. If you are doing a permanent project and have the funds, authentic marble is your best option.Marble is commonly used on floors and countertops for its durability and style. Faux marble should be used on walls, columns or other decorative accents that may be changed frequently or would be too expensive to create with real marble. We really hope you liked our article.
