mid century style living room - project by Child Studio

Elegant Fusion – Exploring a Home Where Art Deco and Mid Century Style Merge

Combining Art Deco and Mid Century styles, this home in London by Child Studio draws inspiration from Yves Saint Laurent’s Grand Salon – resonating a unique narrative of timeless beauty. Subtle tones, elegant furniture, and an exquisite display of art and decor accessories set the sober scenario of this stunning home in London. Child Studio was responsible for this classic design that merges Art Deco and Mid Century styles, where every choice remains a journey into timeless elegance. In this article, we dive into this refined home interior and explore the design choices that set the tone for this stunning scenario – from the Mid-century style furniture, art deco references, and Yves Saint Laurent’s inspirations. THE INSPIRATION – A JOURNEY INTO TIME Hidden in Mayfair, a mews courtyard in London, this home shares more than a sophisticated interior – but also a journey into different eras and stunning inspirations. Located in an area that speaks volumes of history, the interior designers Che Huang and Alexy Kos from Child Studio enjoy the opportunity to create a unique design language for the project – which would convey the tales of the area and history and timelessness. From the historical streets of Mayfair, the designers found the inspiration for a unique design language in Paris, more precisely at Yves Saint Laurent’s Grand Salon at Rue de Babylon. Inspired by how Art Deco references and art objects filled the space, the designers mimic it in this home and now the space Mid Century style references while offering a journey into the beauty of ’60s and ’70s elegance. THE PROJECT – A UNIQUE NARRATIVE As a home for a restauranteur and hotelier, the project had a particular headline: special attention to the dining and convivial spaces. Considering the owner’s needs, the Child Studio duo infuses the home with a warm and inviting atmosphere that follows all the house areas and assembles the perfect mood for parties and entertainment. In the generous living room, the designers filled the room with mid century style furniture and an eclectic mix of sculptures, art objects, and books, creating more than a convivial area but almost an art gallery that stimulates conversations while sharing a cozy atmosphere.  Using wood library panels – the interior designers created different divisions in the generous space – from dining to the study room – everything perfectly integrates the same narratives and space, simultaneously having its delimited zone and offering a flow between the various interior sections. The dining area is sober and elegant and, at the same time, welcomes the bright outside with a beautiful glass wall. Art Deco Style Pink Hotel – Explore the Memorable Am Hof 8 Project

Embracing its history, this Vienna-located art deco style hotel puts a spin on the plain traditional with an eccentric pink palette Located in Vienna, Austria, this clubhouse is nestled in one of the city’s most historic squares, Am Hof. Known as The Kattus Haus, the edifice has been owned by the Kattus family for over three centuries. The property, nominated Am Hof 8, is a private members Club that takes its name from its prominent address. As the construction was built in 1508, this now modern version of a gentlemen’s club occupies a Renaissance-style structure. And although this form was preserved through, for example, the remains of the former castle walls and parts of a Roman wall, the design of this hotel is influenced by an art deco style and pinkish colors. With nine extensive floors and the goal of creating luxurious and exotic socializing places, as well as an atmosphere that would feel comfortable to exchange ideas or build essential connections, of course, it had to be able to act like a sanctuary. For this reason, each room has its unique decor thoughtfulness by London-based Austrian interior designer Theresa Obermoser. However, transforming a historic building into a private club is challenging, and it took Johannes, namesake descendant and CEO of Kattus Group, and Theresa over three years to finish. As this building had to provide many functions, these art deco style hotel facilities included bars, restaurants, a shared workplace and meeting rooms, five hotel rooms, a basement nightclub under the building’s Medieval barrel vaults, and a hidden rooftop terrace. Every one of them with its own unique design, yet, all the rooms share a nostalgic aesthetic of understated classical luxury. As desired, Theresa was able to maintain and transform Vienna’s heritage. The designer accomplished that by connecting the city’s rich culture with vibrant colors, mainly pink, with plush, velvety fabrics and exotic patterns, filling the art deco style hotel with sophistication while also spreading playfulness. The whole hotel exhales a deep warm feeling. This sensation was achieved thanks to the custom-made furniture, the use of wallpaper and its design, several art collection objects, and especially the combination of rough and soft textures, such as ceramics and bronze, natural stone, velvet, linen, and silk. Another vital element for this room to float in harmony is logically the color scheme. This feature is definitely well-thought. Even though it has diverse colors, they all belong in the same art deco style and float between remarkably similar tones and vibes, creating an overall pink environment. The line between designing a creative, amusing space and creating an overwhelming area is thin. This is where a design project usually fails or shines. Therefore, achieving an elegant balance between these characteristics is immensely demanding. Even so, Theresa Obermoser successfully decorated this art deco style clubhouse. Despite the diverse range of stylistic references and the bold palette, she produced the opposite of an out-of-place scenario. She was able to maintain its elegance. Even when the designer chooses a simple and plain background, she is always capable of transforming it and animating it a bit with rich and unique decorations and furniture, yet, never ruining or affecting the room’s luxury. For instance, if she picks a rich one-color wall that exhales sophistication, she would emphasize that lux by highlighting a glamorous and atypical lamp or centering a peculiar table with a curious pattern. One of Theresa’s purposes in this art deco style hotel was to simulational celebrate Vienna’s ageless elegance, making the private club guests feel like they had just arrived in the Austrian city and that are in an extraordinary and new exotic place. Intending to do that, the designer filled every area with its character and vibrant colors, exotic patterns, tropical plants, and, in some places, mainly the bathrooms, even wild animal prints. The outdoor living space couldn’t be left out regarding this art deco style hotel’s lively pink aura! This rooftop terrace, covered in rose hues, reflects in perfection the Austrian city craved energy and comfort, transporting anyone to the ultimate desired exotic dream. This beautiful building is a flawless example to prove that traditional structures, a creative art deco style, and a peachy palette can indeed work magnificently to create a cozy yet elegant space. Art Deco House: Inside the Luxurious Sri Lanka Property

Take a tour inside an Art Deco House designed by Eleven Studio that unites local architecture with an elegant interpretation, revealing the beauty of the Art Deco Style. Surrounded by the glamours of Sri Lanka, nature lays an incredible Art Deco house Enhancing the traditional features of local homes, this project signed by Eleven Studio blends the beauty of nature with a beautiful interpretation of the Art Deco Style. The Art Deco House This Art Deco house is located in a large green property purchased by the family. Beyond the central building, where the couple lives, this extensive property still includes a Pool House with a pool view that separates two areas of the house, the balcony, and an oversized patio where a handmade mosaic that units marble and tile fragments recovered in different chromatic diversities, framed by a traditional teak porch, was build. The mosaic that dominates the scene in the courtyard of this Art Deco house works as the only common thread between a naturalistic exterior and lavish interior spaces. Laid by hand, it mixes small fragments of marble recovered from factory waste with tiles purchased localy- a captivating and bold choice designed to identify the domicile. Now heading to the living room, which is undoubtedly one of the most important places in a house, where people go to relax and socialize. For that reason, this area deserved extra attention in this project to provide a welcoming and comfortable feeling. Eleven Studio found the perfect balance between the Art Deco details and traditional touches, resulting in a place that exudes comfort and sophistication. The equilibrium between styling choices and materials The main concern in this project was to make the space modern and cozy, maintaining closeness to the typical local houses. The materials achieved the connection between these two characteristics. In this case, Sri Lanka’s architecture is based on clay roofs, coconut columns, and teak floors, all from local origins. To maximize the Art Deco flair, they used wrought iron and brass doors and frames, which created cohesion between environments without weighing on the visual impact. This is visible, for example, on the brass-base dining room table created by local artisans, especially for the space. Another interior choice made by Eleven Studio’s group was to leave Bella Figura in charge of the wall appliques. The highlights of this room go to the incredible chandelier and the bold dining table – which blended styles in a beautiful way. The contrast between the interior and exterior Based on the desire to display an intense dialogue with the surrounding nature, the property’s surroundings contrast entirely with the inside space. Externally, the residence is reminiscent of the vegetation in which it is immersed in every way, in an uninterrupted flow with the scenery. Eleven Studio’s team selected the interiors during the construction phase, so the choice of contrasting interiors and architecture is conscious. For example, the details that refer to sophisticated opulence always suit the most traditional materials. The blend between styles Having plenty of space available, the team and owners chose to investigate two distinct artistic styles. The famous ‘Hollywood Regency‘ style is honored in one area of the home, the one that contains the private lounge and one of the two double bedrooms. This style is reflected in the green and pink upholstery, the numerous mirrors, and the use of silver as a primary color (the kitchen, for instance, is made of silver oak). In the second area of the property, intense colors, patterns, tinted glass, and smooth shapes are characteristics of a Miami Art Deco house. This part of the house is the one that defines the other two bedrooms and the majority of the living room (where the two shades overlap in a delicate equilibrium). What an inspiring tour! This Art Deco house proves a traditional local home can still be modern and stylish. We hope that this house has inspired you to upgrade your project. art deco restaurant design with chinese decor

A Fusion of Art Deco Restaurant Design and Chinese Decor

Indulge in the breathtaking ambiance of Songyun Villa, the perfect fusion of an art deco restaurant and traditional Chinese decor. Welcome to Songyun Villa, an exquisite restaurant in Changzhou (China) that combines traditional and modern elements to create an unforgettable dining experience. The restaurant’s interior design (the result of an extensive renovation by the interdisciplinary design practice, Bob Chen Design Office) is a fusion of Chinese decor and art deco restaurant design, featuring multiple small and large dining rooms spread over three levels, with each one exploring this common theme in a different way. In this article, we will delve into the details of Songyun Villa’s interior design, highlighting its unique features and the ambiance it creates for diners. Arriving at Songyun Villa When first arriving at Sognyun Villa, one can be immediately amazed by the villa’s imposing brick gate, decorated with detailed stone carvings in true Chinese tradition and embellished with subtle details in the form of golden accents and purposeful lighting that recalls us to the art deco style, warning us about the place we’re about to enter. If one dares to do so, they’re immediately greeted by a lush courtyard showcasing original decorative features. The villa’s outdoor area boasts a sleek fish pond with steel and wood borders, complementing the existing marble reliefs, stone pedestals, and mosaic tiling. This patio also features a bar housed in a modern metal building painted black, designed to balance with the villa’s original brickwork, setting the tone for the restaurant’s interior design. Entering Songyun Villa The tiny vestibules and halls that are encountered when visitors approach the home serve as a prelude to the restaurant’s unusual layout. The segmented arrangement of the house was maintained by the Bob Chen Design Office, which also added a bigger dining hall in the former ballroom, with the restaurant now featuring fifteen dining rooms of varying sizes distributed over three levels (but all of which exploring this beautiful balance between Chinese decor and the art deco style). This variety of eating spaces enables everything from private dining and small parties to bigger ceremonies. With each room having a distinctive décor, the designers have let their imaginations run wild, embracing a style that is deeply rooted in traditional Chinese decor and that is presented through a contemporary perspective leaning heavily on an art deco restaurant design approach. In this sense, the designers behind this project took inspiration from traditional Chinese art forms (and Chinese decor) such as landscape paintings, porcelain decorations, and calligraphy, integrating a variety of designs that range from floral motifs to geometric patterns and figurative art into the wallpapers, screens, tiling, and artworks. Furthermore, other traditional Chinese decor pieces are also placed throughout the restaurant, like antique vases, ceremonial tea sets, incense burners, and bonsai plants. To counterbalance everything, the designers implement contemporary design staples like clean lines, simple shapes, and a somber color palette of saturated dark hues and grey tones, leaning heavily into the art deco restaurant approach with detailed furniture and light fixtures with gold accents and opulent vintage designs. But it is this mix of natural textures like rough stone and wood with clean and sophisticated ones like glossy metallics, polished marble, and velvet, that creates this spatial and visual experience that is both sticking and balanced. When Art Deco Restaurant Design Meets Chinese Decor The design of Songyun Villa is a true masterpiece, with a unique and eclectic mix of Chinese and Western architectural and design elements, making it a harmonious blend of the old and the new. The villa’s interiors are an homage to Chinese decor, and the design approach of this art deco restaurant has successfully created an indulgent spatial and visual experience that complements the culinary experience. Dining at Songyun Villa is not just about the food but also about the experience, from the moment guests enter the villa’s courtyard to the intimate dining spaces, which have been designed to evoke a sense of Chinese heritage rendered through a modern lens (thanks to the mix of Chinese decor and the art deco style). The Bob Chen Design Office has truly achieved a balance between past and present, tradition and modernity, and East and West. Are you feeling inspired by this project?
