Faux Marble Gaining Popularity in 2020

In 2020, a lot of designers will rely on faux marble to add texture, quality and visual warmth to their projects. Wondering why this is on the list of 2020 Trends of ELLE Decor Magazine? While real marble is undoubtedly exquisite, faux marble offers designers other valuable benefits. For one, you don’t have to spend hours searching for the exact right piece at a marble slab provider.  While it is true that it is a very durable natural stone that has been used since ancient times for decorative purposes, it is also a fact that today it is one of the most expensive stones on the market. Faux marble offers lots of other practical advantages. It is gaining popularity, especially for projects where costs need to be curbed or among homeowners, who cannot afford the real stone. If you are curious to learn a bit more about the different types and uses of faux marble, keep reading. 1. What types of faux marble exist and how are they being used? Marble is probably the most imitated stone in the world. Generally, there are three main types of faux marble that are used for home refurbishment: • Faux stoneIt resembles the natural stone but lacks its depth and shine. This is a polymer made of resin and marble pieces. It doesn’t scratch or etch so easily as the real natural stone and is therefore preferred for areas as kitchen tops. • Painted laminate The laminate tiles are painted in a way that mimics the look of marble. If you are going for a fabulous floor resembling that made of natural stone, this is one of the options.Laminate is cheaper and easier to install compared to marble tiles. • Faux marbling or marbleizing  It’s a technique for covering the surface with paint that resembles marble. You can choose any of the options above, depending on the project you have in mind. It is possible to combine the different techniques in order to achieve the result you are looking for. 2. Authentic Marble or Faux Marble: which is the Best Solution? Marble will be far more sturdy and far more expensive than faux marble. If you are doing a permanent project and have the funds, authentic marble is your best option.Marble is commonly used on floors and countertops for its durability and style. Faux marble should be used on walls, columns or other decorative accents that may be changed frequently or would be too expensive to create with real marble. We really hope you liked our article. In for 2020: Furniture with European-inspired detailing

Furniture with European-inspired detailing is trending! “German and Italian influences can be found in the sloping arms of couches, knife-edge welts, metal legs, and more. I am even seeing traditional furniture brands embracing the trend, offering European silhouettes and features for the first time.” – said Marie Flanigan of Marie Flanigan Interiors on Elle Decor’s article regarding Furniture Trends for 2020. European-inspired furniture is made up of large-sized pieces. If you’re looking to decorate your projects Old World style, you have a wide range of options: • French Country Farmhouse • Tuscan • Spanish • Mediterranean • French Chateau • Italian Villa You can choose one of these styles and focus on it or you can mix elements from each on the list to make sure you’re satisfied with your final design project. What colors should be used in European-inspired Decoration? European interior design uses colors that can be observed in nature. These should be rich, pleasant and deep-toned. Depending on the European style décor which has inspired you, its trends trends may offer up a range of colors such as sage green or duck egg blue. Furniture in European Design Style If you’re considering Old World furniture design you should include freestanding cabinets. Farmhouse interiors often have wooden shelving with a range of ceramics or pottery displayed on open shelves. To achieve a more laid-back look, think of European barns. A kitchen island will often feature on top home design blogs due to its versatility. With a butcher block or marble top, this is a keen design element meant to serve both as a work space and a place you can hold gatherings. If you want to follow this European inspired trend in 2020, keep in mind that the rooms should be inviting and formal, but also have a lived-in appearance. You should consider including wood framed couches and chairs and heavily colored and textured cushions. Velvet or cotton are the go-to fabrics to achieve that elegant finishing touch. Classical Interiors with a modern twist, a 2020 Interiors Trend Alert

Incorporating Greek and Roman art and architecture into interiors is trending for 2020, according to ELLE Decor. Greek and Roman art and architecture never really goes out of fashion. That’s why they call it classical, right? Great Karl Largerfeld said, on the launch of his last ever furniture collection in 2018, he was inspired by the perfect proportions of Greek columns.According to him, “they truly are the standards for beauty, fixed, once and for all. The Greeks didn’t know about bad taste.” That may be, but classical features need to be carefully thought out since they can look awkward out of context.  Just because a décor element is classically inspired doesn’t mean it’s nice.Every generation has a new take on classicism and some work better than others. According to Rayman Boozer, the American interior designer behind Apartment 48.“Classicism is back!” According to him “Busts and Grecian details add the perfect perspective to any contemporary vignette.Embrace these time-honored elements without taking them too seriously – playfulness is the perfect final touch.” Below you can see an illustration of the trend that shows a Greek bust wearing a yellow tie. This is classicism for the post-irony generation: teasing, respectful and often funny. There are different ways to approach contemporary classicism.Taking a reproduction of ancient art and displaying it in an ironic way is one of them.Another is using objects that come pre-programmed with humor. Classical accessories can be used in one of two main ways.It can be used through a statement piece – such as a classical sculpture that is an eye-catcher in the room. You can also use smaller pieces like bookends. Contemporary classicism seems to work best as part of a theme. It’s important to highlight that it’s not enough to place the bust on its own with nothing to make sense of it. Several classical elements should be brought together in a room to make the best out of this 2020 trend! We really hope you liked our article. An electrifying moon story told by GBD studio in the luxury villa project

Li Bai, one of the greatest Chinese poets once sat under a pavilion and stared at the moon, regretting that, while the moon remains the same since ancient times, the world changes every day. This story could have been an inspiration for GBD Architects, when they were working on this luxury villa project in Chongqing.  Guangzhou Du Wenbiao Decoration & Design Company (GBD) is gaining more and more recognition in China and worldwide. Founded in 2013, the studio focuses on providing high-quality interior design services for high-end customers. Their works evoke a new scope of design, mixing oriental traditional art with modern interior design.  The moon is the main theme of the whole project, as the moon and life are repeatedly contrasted. The designers attempted to combine ancient oriental elements with modern design, creating amazing zen-like spaces. This luxury villa project is a place meant to transcend time and space in a beautiful dance of ancient and modern.  The main living space presents a contrast between white and red. Above the fireplace, in the center of attention, there is a bright ball on the wall that looks like a large full moon slowly rising and hanging above the seating area. This high-ceilinged space is filled with three-dimensional composition and geometric shapes, so as to create a poetic area in this luxury villa.  The combination of classical elements and modern geometry blurs the definition of the border between traditional aesthetic and contemporary minimalism. Through subtle composition and cozy color palette, the designers managed to create a perfect calm interior. The dynamics and stasis outline the artistic poetry of the space, depicting the details into the spirituality of life. In the second living room, the plain white walls and simple black lines create a relatively quiet atmosphere, intended to highlight the gorgeous lacquer painting of swimming fish on the ceiling. This room is kept in the beige palette, with smooth, classic textures and luxury patterns.  The collision of art and vitality adds an aura to space. The painting of a swimming fish, waving their gorgeous tails, looks as if they are about to jump out from the ceiling. This motif is also present in the dining room, where the round dining table is adorned with an amazing golden fish figurine. The dining area of this luxury villa is simple and corresponds with the style of the rest of the place, creating a calm atmosphere. It’s a perfect invitation to a lovely dinner with family or close friends.  The overall color palette of the girls’ room is warm and romantic, resembling the pink cheeks of a young girl, with a large floral pattern covering the entire background, intended to create a charming image of a beautiful woman surrounded by flowers and playing zither under the moon.  ” Sitting alone in a quiet grove, I play my zither and whistle long. In the deep forest, no one knows that the moon is shining. ” – says Li Bais’ poem. The study introduces elements such as birds and shadows, creating a small space full of nature, that adds a bit of a focused atmosphere into the room.  The boys’ room is filled with pastel colors. It presents geometric elements of blue sky and vibrant oranges. There are elements such as the full moon and clouds that resemble childlike images of traveling through the clouds.  The main bedroom features yet another motif from nature, this time is a peacock. The peacock is symbolizes elegance, so it’s tails’ picture is present on the bedroom wall. The Studio added some three-dimensional blocks of color to give the space a richer dimension, while intentionally obscuring the peacock’s tail to give it a more subtle feeling.  The main bathroom walls are marble. Its colors and patterns creates an amazing, yet another wild life atmosphere.

New York house: how to have a bold and chic atmosphere

Crystal Sinclair has developed a central belief with design: have fun, push boundaries, get creative, and do something unexpected. In upstate New York, interior designer Crystal Sinclair dared to be bold while transforming a traditional house into a playful and contemporary family dwelling. When they decided to move to Rye—a suburb located about 35 minutes north of the Big Apple where they felt more at ease raising their two children Roma and Sahil—husband and wife Ravi and Shetal waited until finding the right interior designer to completely transform their newly purchased home. “They loved my design eye and bold aesthetic, and wanted something similar—a little edgy while classic”, remembers Crystal Sinclair—founder of the studio Crystal Sinclair Designs. For this colonial-style house originally built in the 1960s, one of the priorities was to keep the expansive spaces kid-friendly and fun, while making them stylish and full of personality. “The living room was beige and empty, with the exception of the green sofa, which was the starting point for the two adjoined rooms”, Sinclair confesses. “Everything fell into place from there.” The striped ceiling and the rock fireplace with a marble-like mantel create a visually surprising and cosy atmosphere perfect for the owners to curl up with a book or host a cocktail hour with guests later into the evening. “I never wanted any part of our home to feel too formal or stuffy”, Shetal says. “Crystal really captured our love of entertaining by creating flexible spaces.” In one of the corners, the oversized pool print by Daniellex adds a relaxing yet sophisticated touch to the living room. In the dining area—Sinclair’s favourite space—the plastered walls by Gala Decorative Finishes and the custom banquette designed by Crystal Sinclair Designs and made by Stitchroom are the stars of the show. “The light casts beautiful shadows on the fluted walls, creating such drama”, the interior designer describes. “Having two tables really allows ample seating and also creates two different spots if needed, for game night or adult/kid tables when hosting friends or family.” In the family room, the abstract artwork by Linda Colletta was the first purchase made for the project, and immediately became the perfect piece for this inviting space. “We pulled colours out of the canvas to complement the beautiful work”, Sinclair says. According to the interior designer, making the kitchen feel cohesive and incorporating some of the original traditional inset cabinets at the same time was another big challenge. “We carefully and thoughtfully added black cabinets, rounded oak shelving, black marble splash, new sconces by Blueprint Lighting and pendants by Circa Lighting, and honed black granite counters”, Sinclair says. “The end result is a modern kitchen that ties into the bones of the home.” Materials full of texture—such as velvet, linen and leather—were used throughout to bring some depth and personality. Mature and playful, dramatic and warm, all the spaces feature the right balance to make everybody feel at ease. “Attention was given to the smaller details and twists were put into some pieces of the puzzle”, Sinclair expresses. “It’s a well-rounded home that works for the entire family, which is what the clients wanted.” Source: Vogue Living Australia
