Kelly Wearstler Malibu Retreat: A Midcentury Beachfront House

Kelly Wearstler Malibu retreat is a gem. The midcentury modern house from an unknown architect was the refuge for the designer and her family and close friends during the tough months of lockdown. KELLY WEARSTLER MALIBU MIDCENTURY MODERN RETREAT As the Covid-19 invaded our lives, Kelly Wearstler made a deal with the owner of a modernist home in Malibu that was inhabited for a couple of years. The intent of the designer was to escape from the alteration of daily life due to the lockdown. The midcentury modernist home of an unknown creator besides being stunning – with a unique aesthete that mixes Californian modernism and Japanese architecture – had the perfect location for Kelly Wearstler and her family during the lockdown. Located in a super relaxed area yet within driving distance to Kelly Wearstler’s West Hollywood studio. Kelly Wearstler’s retreat for the critical months of the pandemic life is a two-storey, four-bedroom house with 1.5 acres of outdoor space. Eventually, after the rental of Kelly Wearstler, the owner of the house finally managed to sell the property to a tech entrepreneur who loves to surf – like Kelly Wearstler, her husband, and her two sons do. The special Malibu beach house has been in the market for several years, going unnoticed until the designer refurbished its interior. In order to bring life to the unoccupied property, Kelly Wearstler Malibu beach house had the interior completely refurbished. An old shag-rug carpet was replaced with seagrass. Then, the designer started to furnish all the spaces with special items from her huge collection of designs that Kelly Wearstler has been buying over the years from auctions and online and keep in her warehouse awaiting the perfect interior design project. Kelly Wearstler Malibu home for lockdown days is very much Kelly Wearstler – earthy and rustic tones (and some shades of palm green) and plenty of sculptural furnishings. In addition, the designer goes for a mix of vintage and contemporary furniture and artworks that helped to revive and celebrate the historic architecture and soul of the beachfront property. It couldn’t go without creating continuity between inside and outside at Kelly Wearstler Malibu refuge. As a result, the creative created an outdoor living area on the expansive rear deck and transformed the dining room into a plant-filled solarium. As the days went by and life’s pace slowed down, the kitchen was the main room of Kelly Wearstler Malibu beach house. A galley-style kitchen is where Wearstler started to love cooking during quarantine, allowing her to interact with her family while doing so. Kelly Wearstler Malibu’s escape praises slow-living while the designer’s creative approach. Mixing things up with a forward-thinking contemporary design and vintage and rustic objects, the designer kept the history of the place while grounded in continuous evolution. Interior Design Tips For The Perfect Fall Home Decor 2021

Days are growing shorter, trees are changing from green into orange, red, and golden. And we wonder – what are the ultimate interior design trends to go through the winter months at ease in a homey interior? These are the top interior design tips for the perfect fall home decor 2021. 1. SUSTAINABILITY: DESIGN WITH CARE Sustainability is the coolest interior design trend for a well-appointed fall home decor 2021. Nevertheless, sustainable interior design is more than a trend. It is a lifestyle. Sustainable interior design designs the future. Source vintage furniture. Not only is it eco-friendly but also reduces waste and saves natural resources. In addition, it makes the interior design project unique and increases its value and meaning over time. This fall, design an interior that advocates natural materials over synthetics as well, such as wood, stone, and steel. And join the revolution of recycled fibers and vegan fabric made from wood, for instance. Above all, be mindful of the impact of your interior design project and work on it with love and care. 2. START WITH WARM NEUTRALS Warm shades of white and grey, black hues with glimpses of blue, and mostly sandy hues. The perfect fall home decor 2021 is plenty of natural colors with a glowing coat. An elegant palette of neutrals fights against the lacking of sunlight. Furthermore, it reflects the bright winter sun, lights up any room, and enhances its glow. 3. THEN ADD SATURATED NATURAL COLORS Murky natural hues such as earthy green, cinnamon wood, and night blue are a luxurious and stylish way of bringing the interior of a home next to the outside. This season, natural colors with brown pigments are an obligatory palette for a harmonious fall home decor 2021. 4. DON’T FORGET VIBRANT AUTUMN’S COLORS Mustard yellow, orange, sienna, purple, and pink are the pigments you should add to your interior design project. Glimpses of electric hues will cheer up the home and temper the muted color scheme.  HOME DECOR TRENDS: FALL 2021 INTERIOR COLOR TRENDS This article reveals all the colors of the season, according to the Pantone Color Institute. 5. DESIGN AN INSPIRING HOME OFFICE A well-appointed interior must consider a home office. Designing a home office for your fall home decor 2021 project creates the perfect ambiance for moments of both inspiration and focus. This room is the greatest refugium for working, writing down thoughts, or letting creativity flow. In addition, an existing home office obligates personal life to be separated from professional life and saves the rest of the house for relaxation and entertainment. 6. CREATE A PRIVATE WELLNESS ROOM The wellness room is an essential feature to go through winter at ease. Fall home decor 2021 trends approach interior design holistically. The combination of biophilic design, color psychology, human biology, and ergonomics, among others, supports the wellness of the mind, body, and soul. As a result, homes and their owners demand a wellness room or a nook for activities such as exercising or meditating. Moreover, the most unexpected and challenging room can be turned into a wellness room, such as a garage or a basement. 7. CHOOSE ORGANIC SHAPES If you want a memorable interior, you have to welcome organic shapes. They assure not only character but also uniqueness to a room. Just like natural colors and sustainable fabrics, organic shapes always get indoors closer to outdoors. At the same time, ain’t nothing more beautiful than an authentic shape made of natural materials. 8. SNUG IN COZY FABRICS Multiple layers of cozy fabrics and textures is another trendy feature of fall home decor 2021. But what are cozy fabrics? Besides having a soft touch, they are less sustainable to bacteria, can be easily washed, and are bot pet- and kid-friendly. 9. BRING OUTDOOR INSIDE Nature is another trendy feature of fall home decor 2021. It can manifest itself in many ways, from colors, to materials, and even in greenery. This is the reason why biophilic design began to dominate interior design projects. And this Fall/Winter it won’t be any different. Celebrating Italian Design: Shop The Look

It’s been way too long since the last time we had the chance to experience the epitome of classical elegance and modern creativity. Milan Design Week 2021 is here. And with it, we are celebrating modern Italian design with as much stylishness and sophistication as required. Italian design is the world trendsetter in fashion, architecture, industrial, and interior design. It assembles high-end details, elegance, and sophistication. And it is the link between the past and the future. The strong heritage of Italian design blurs the line between art and interiors. CLASSIC ELEGANCE AND MODERN CREATIVITY Midcentury modern Italian design combines classic elegance with modern creativity. In the Cluedo seating collection, Máni Center Table, and Lush Mirror, art deco and Memphis Milano bounce in our perception. On one hand, a playful design captivates our attention with squishy shapes. On the other hand, a conventional color palette highlights the distinctive elegance of each one of these modern furniture pieces. ASTOUNDING CRAFTSMANSHIP Expertise is the best way of celebrating Italian design. Stainless steel, polished marble spheres, wood marquetry, and gloss finishings underline the astounding craftsmanship that comes from designing and manufacturing with passion, detail, and know-how.  The Quantic console table is a mixture of travertine stone, golden stainless steel, and hand-polished. The Rumba console table honors wood marquetry. Finally, the Marino sideboard has a multitude of tactile (and visual) textures with marble and stainless steel and wood both raw and lacquered. All these features are mastered by love. The artistry enlivens a room and, at the same time, starts off some interesting conversations about the design and its heritage. SELECTED MATERIALS Celebrating Italian design is celebrating high-end materials, carefully sourced and crafted. Glass, wood, marble, ceramics, natural fibers, and sustainable materials. Italian design combines stylishness and innovation. The Ibiza mirror is made of lacquered wood and natural fibers. Jaxon rug is made of natural fibers as well, namely wood. And so does Ahron rug which is made of sustainable fibers made from bamboo. Hommés Studio delivers products that are as stylish as innovative. When it comes to textiles, products are made of wool and silk – classic premium materials. Nevertheless, incubating the future, our textiles are mostly recycled fibers and vegan fibers made from bamboo and wood. SCULPTURAL FURNITURE DESIGN Sculptural chandeliers, streamlined furniture, and visual textures are features that modern Italian design got us used to. Celebrating Italian design is to celebrate distinctive elegance and idiosyncratic features. Fuschia is an elegant dining table with is the juxtaposition of rectangular and round shapes. The zingy (and stunning) Mystic suspension lamp is the epitome of modern Italian design while the Luminous suspension lamp is a streamlined and modern interpretation of art deco lighting fixtures. Join us in this celebration of elegance, sophistication, and utmost quality. Jonathan Adler Designed a Nob Hill, San Francisco, Home

Jonathan Adler is one of the world’s most celebrated designers, with several namesake stores and an outwardly endless list of collaborations. So understandably, he picks his decorating projects meticulously. However, it is easy to see what attracted him to this particular property. A majestic residence in San Francisco’s Nob Hill filled with rich architectural details. Jonathan Adler tries to avoid the craziness of decorating, but this client and this house were so delightful, it was irresistible. The clients, Gerine Ongkeko and her husband, Jorge del Calvo, thoroughly charmed Adler with their jovial and daring mindset. The couple is bold, free-thinking, and self-made. She wants something remarkable, and that is how an excellent decorating project should be. Ongkeko and del Calvo decided to move from their longtime home in Silicon Valley to the city where they had started their professional lives. Three decades and several successful career moves later, the couple was ready for a new type of homecoming. So they hired Adler to transform their recently purchased 1915 property into a fun and inviting home that felt like a breath of fresh air. Adler’s first decision was to paint the entire four-story space in white, brightening carved-wood panels, elaborate ceiling moldings, and turned railings. Then, he filled the space with his signature brio, pairing whimsical pieces from his collection with handpicked vintage items from admired designers. The designer curated an unconventional, eclectic, and luxurious collection of pieces. He wanted to reflect the client at her most glamorous. In the living room, which features a stately fireplace topped by an ornately framed mirror, Adler kept a mostly alabaster palette interrupted by details of purple and fuchsia. It all comes together in a way that’s stylish, contemporary, and just a little bit out of the box. “He does not take things too seriously but puts much thought behind it,” Ongkeko says. “He is brilliant.” Check out our journal to discover more inspiration and find a daily dose of modern and spectacular architecture designs. The Ideal Living Room Layout With 9 Interior Design Tips

You have with you an amazing set of furniture and home accessories but don’t know how to arrange them. More importantly, you’re looking for the ideal living room layout to style a mindful space at home. So, this article is just for you! We’ve reunited 9 interior design tips to design the ideal living room. Nevertheless, some elements are essential when designing any interior – such as balancing colors and shapes or creating several moments within a room. 1. DESIGN A FLOOR PLAN First and foremost, designing a floor plan will help you to find the ideal living room layout for your space. Take the room’s measurements and measure your furniture pieces as well. Then, download an interior design app or sketch it in the old-fashioned style with a pencil on paper. Designing a floor plan will help you to preview the end result of your space. In addition, it will expose dead corners or give you clearance on the need for bespoke furniture design. 2. DEFINE YOUR FOCAL POINT What is that element in the room that you expect all eyes to meet? What is the attention-catcher? The showstopper? The outside view, a painting on the wall, a suspension lamp, a fireplace, or a modern coffee table? Once you’ve decided, is time to design – angle the furniture to draw the eyes to your element of choice. 3. BALANCE SHAPES AND COLORS Be mindful of the shapes and colors of your furniture and decor. Juxtapose muted hues with vivid colors and pattern elements. Spread some similar color accents and shapes around the room. 4. CREATE SEVERAL CONVERSATIONAL MOMENTS It’s always nice to have an intimate conversational area within a room – it can be a bedroom, or even in the bathroom or dressing room (a couple of stools and a side table are transforming, for instance). The ideal living room layout has multiple moments – or multiple conversational areas. Varied seating options – such as stools and armchairs – and side tables create a cozy nook inside the main entertaining room of the house. 5. USE RUGS TO OUTLINE DIFFERENT AREAS The ideal living room layout uses large modern rugs to outline different areas. For instance, the seating area might be delimitated by a rug while a bookcase or a sideboard stands on the bare floor. This tip can be worn on other spaces’ layout. For instance, in a large hotel lobby, modern rugs will differentiate different social areas. 6. CREATE LAYERS OF LIGHTING Well-appointed lighting fixtures are essential to pull off the ideal living room layout. Use different sources. To illustrate, overhead fixtures are great for ambient light while sconces or floor lamps are for accent lighting, and table lamps are for task lighting. Also, point the fixtures in different directions so that they play off one another in engaging ways. Pair floor lamps with lounge chairs, and use stylish table lamps on end tables to brighten darker corners. 7. COFFEE TABLE AN ARM’S LENGHT FROM THE SOFA A good rule of thumb for the ideal living room layout is to set tables an arm’s length away from seating. For instance, place a coffee table about 18 inches from a sofa so that it is within reach but not too close. 8. SIZE AND PROPORTION While scale denotes the size of an object, proportion refers to the relationship between the sizes of different objects. To achieve an ideal living room layout, one large piece of furniture can be balanced by two smaller ones – for instance, set two chairs across from a sofa. 9. WELCOME NATURAL LIGHT Don’t block the windows and allow natural light to flood in and illuminate the room. Avoid placing sofas and other furniture pieces blocking the sunlight. An airy window will connect indoors with outdoors and add some flow to the space layout. Discover 14 Modern Ideas to design a living room layout with our article here. 10 Home Office Design Ideas That Will Boost Your Productivity

A dedicated home office design helps you set aside household distractions and focus on work. These eleven home office design ideas will really make you want to sit down in your workspace and complete your to-do list. Minimalist and Bright A bright and light home office design is the perfect place to think and create. The objective is to take advantage of the natural light that enters the windows. Shiny and Unique Take advantage of the unique shapes of the office furniture. In this way, you can have an office with an unusual design, but at the same time functional and practical. Pops of Color Be bold, and take a risk. Mix many colors to cheer your workday. A color combo is a perfect way to create new ideas, and it is perfect for boosting your productivity. Monochromatic Space If you are looking for a way to decorate your bare walls but do not want to do the typical gallery wall, a tapestry or a one-color wall can be the missing element for visual interest and texture. Mediterranean Home Office Create an understated and sophisticated environment in a relaxed place. Use an Art Deco feel with paneling, muted tones, and elegant fabrics. Office Statement Wall How do you bring a wow factor to the office? First, create a sense of warmth. You can upholster the walls in one color or paint the wall with a bold pattern. Dark Walls Combined With a Bold Rug With a cozy fire and some dark, moody elements, the office design gains a sense of maturity and elegance. The dark colors with a bold rug create a perfect ambiance to complete all the tasks. Contemporary Home Office Bold black lines and furnishings give the space a strong statement. The combination of vibrant colors and earthy tones, and textures really work if you intend to create a smooth office.   Neutral Work Space The neutral palette keeps the design clean and relaxed. Vintage Vibes Vintage pieces take center stage in every room. It is a way to have a space with history but at the same time functional and modern, with small details.
