In a quiet corner of Abdoun, a vibrant district in Jordan’s capital, one modern villa in Amman defies convention. Owned by Sirine Sidani Abu Ghazaleh and Ahmad Abu Ghazaleh, this home is not only an architectural statement – it’s a personal sanctuary where contemporary art, nature, and family life merge into one living experience.  When the couple envisioned their dream home nearly two decades ago, they wanted more than a shelter. They wanted to create something from the ground up – a villa that would reflect their values, aesthetics, and multicultural heritage. Ahmad, a Jordanian-Palestinian raised abroad, and Sirine, a Lebanese creative raised between Paris and Beirut, found Abdoun the perfect canvas.  Abdoun: A Fitting Home for a Modern Vision  Known for its elegant homes and a cosmopolitan vibe, Abdoun offered just the right balance of tradition and modernity. For the Abu Ghazaleh family, it was the natural location to build a villa that embraced their lifestyle and celebrated design, openness, and light.  “We wanted our home to be an anchor and a complete representation of what was important to us as a family,” Sirine reflects. “Growing up, we both played lots of sports, so being outdoors and being connected to nature became crucial for our mental wellbeing,” explains Sirine. “We wanted to create the same experience for our kids.”  Designing the Modern Villa  To make their dream a reality, they turned to Lebanese architect Pierre Bassil, known for his bold, raw modernist style and sensitivity to nature. His design for their home focused on large glass surfaces, a seamless indoor-outdoor layout, and a fluid, light-filled structure that embraced simplicity and elegance.  The façade, lined with stone and glass, gives way to a stunning courtyard paved with Syrian basalt and Jerusalem limestone, setting the tone for what lies within.  A Canvas for Contemporary Art  As art collectors, Sirine and Ahmad designed their villa to house and display their growing collection of contemporary works. Over time, their home has become an informal gallery showcasing regional and international artists.  From Chris Ofili’s powerful imagery to Mohamed Bourouissa’s politically charged photography, their collection reflects thoughtful engagement with the world. Influenced by the legendary designer Gregory Gatserelia, she appreciated volume, proportion, and history. Unsurprisingly, they tapped Gatserelia to create the interior design for their modern villa in Amman, which features natural finishes, clean lines, and open sightlines perfect for art appreciation and family life.  Ahmad’s entry into the art world was sparked by a visit to the Venice Biennale, where he encountered Alfredo Jaar’s Gold in the Morning. That piece depicting Brazilian miners became his first serious acquisition—and still moves him today.  Sirine, on the other hand, vividly remembers discovering Yto Barrada’s Twin Palm Island—lit palm trees on wheels that symbolized movement and migration. “It felt like a soulful metaphor,” she says, and she still takes inspiration from it.  Function Meets Aesthetic  Though filled with prestigious artworks, the villa never feels overly curated. The family room features a multicolored table by Elias and Yousef Anastas paired with Walid Raad’s evocative work. These areas serve multiple purposes—hosting dinner parties, artist talks, or relaxed family evenings. Located in a 17th-century hôtel particulier and facing the majestic newly restored Notre Dame, this elegant Paris apartment now celebrates its architectural heritage and its new role as a vibrant family home. Through careful restoration and bold design, the space reflects the seamless integration of tradition and modern living, embodying the essence of life in a truly cinematic apartment.  A Thoughtful Layout for Modern Family Living The renovation project focused on transforming the 290-square-meter Paris apartment into a functional yet luxurious space for a family of four and their live-in au pair. With two floors — a 250 sqm principal level and a 40 sqm entresol studio — the duplex layout was ideal for creating distinct zones. The studio on the mezzanine level now serves as a private haven for the au pair, maintaining the style and tone of the larger Paris apartment while offering comfort and independence.  Seamless Design and Haute Couture Vision Functionality was at the core of reimagining this apartment. The designers de-compartmentalized the interiors to enhance flow and light, creating an open and breathable layout suitable for family life. Classic Haussmannian features — such as the moldings and cornices— were restored to their original beauty, infusing the Paris apartment with authentic French character. From room to room, the transition between past and present is effortless, offering a spatial rhythm that is both intuitive and elegant.  This refined apartment has been brought to life by Double G Studio — the acclaimed design team of Flora de Gastines and Anne Geistdoerfer. Known for their bespoke approach, they embraced the concept of “haute couture” design for this project, tailoring every element to suit the architecture and the family’s lifestyle. Their mastery of proportion, light, and materiality shines through in every room, turning this Paris apartment into a harmonious dialogue between form and function.  Materials, Mood, and a Collector’s Eye for Detail Color and material choices were instrumental in shaping the mood of the place. Soft chalk-toned lime coatings add depth to the walls, while noble materials such as Calcutta marble, American walnut, and brushed brass bring warmth and tactile luxury. The subdued palette allows the original architectural elements of the Paris apartment — the oak floors, mirrors, and fireplace — to stand out as focal points. The studio space combines functionality with warmth, offering a true sense of independence while remaining visually connected to the overall style of the Paris apartment.  Every detail of the studio speaks to curated elegance. A City Fog table lamp by François Bazin lends a soft, ambient glow beside the bed dressed in inviting linens from Maison de Vacances. In the bathroom, a vintage mirror and a Charlotte Perriand stool elevate the space with understated charm. At the same time, the pantry features delicate Astier de Villatte tableware — a quiet nod to Parisian artisanal craft. In the adjacent TV room, a Group sofa by SCP rests atop a Limited Edition rug, creating a relaxed atmosphere ideal for winding down.
