KELLY WEARSTLER MALIBU MIDCENTURY MODERN RETREAT
As the Covid-19 invaded our lives, Kelly Wearstler made a deal with the owner of a modernist home in Malibu that was inhabited for a couple of years. The intent of the designer was to escape from the alteration of daily life due to the lockdown.
The midcentury modernist home of an unknown creator besides being stunning – with a unique aesthete that mixes Californian modernism and Japanese architecture – had the perfect location for Kelly Wearstler and her family during the lockdown. Located in a super relaxed area yet within driving distance to Kelly Wearstler’s West Hollywood studio.
Kelly Wearstler’s retreat for the critical months of the pandemic life is a two-storey, four-bedroom house with 1.5 acres of outdoor space. Eventually, after the rental of Kelly Wearstler, the owner of the house finally managed to sell the property to a tech entrepreneur who loves to surf – like Kelly Wearstler, her husband, and her two sons do. The special Malibu beach house has been in the market for several years, going unnoticed until the designer refurbished its interior.
In order to bring life to the unoccupied property, Kelly Wearstler Malibu beach house had the interior completely refurbished. An old shag-rug carpet was replaced with seagrass. Then, the designer started to furnish all the spaces with special items from her huge collection of designs that Kelly Wearstler has been buying over the years from auctions and online and keep in her warehouse awaiting the perfect interior design project.
