Parisian apartment in the contemporary style of Charles Zana

A Serene Apartment by Charles Zana – Timeless Design in Paris

Discover the apartment of Charles Zana: A timeless design masterpiece in Saint-Germain-des-Prés that mixes eras and styles while in constant evolution. This apartment by Charles Zana in Saint-Germain-des-Prés is a stunning example of the renowned French interior designer’s impeccable design skills. Located in one of Paris’s most coveted neighborhoods, this apartment comes across as a harmonious blend of modern and traditional elements, creating a sophisticated and inviting atmosphere, as is the Charles Zana aesthetic. The apartment is also part of a beautiful 18th-century Parisian building and, as such, can be characterized by its high ceilings, large windows, and ornate moldings, all of these elements that spiked Zana’s interest and which he has skillfully preserved while infusing the space with his signature contemporary aesthetic, resulting in a timeless design that is both current and traditional. From the moment one steps inside, this aesthetic can be seen on full display, with a space characterized by clean lines, neutral tones, and a mix of antique and modern furnishings. Clean Lines The sobriety of the lines it’s what truly prevails in this project. By curating a selection of sleek furniture with clean lines and minimal details, Charles Zana manages to bring subtlety, tranquility, and an “everything in its place” quality to this home, resulting in elegant, welcoming spaces. Furthermore, the contrast between this and the more classical sculptured structure of the apartment (evidenced by elements like the ornate moldings, the carved fireplaces, the crafted railing in the entry, and the oak paneling in the bedroom) allows for a confrontation of lines that makes this project so much more interesting, enhancing the timeless design approach taken by Charles Zana. Neutral Tones When it comes to the color palette, minding this timeless design approach, Charles Zana invests in neutral colors, and textures, creating a serene backdrop for the pieces of furniture in these spaces. From white tones to greys, beiges, or browns, the designer stays true to his vision, betting on colors that help create a cohesive look that is easy to maintain and that can take being added to over the years. Besides that, this apartment (with its dominant neutral tones) also works as a white canvas where more striking colors are invited to. In this regard, Charles Zana invests in occasional pops of color, be it through small colorful decorative objects (like the Sottsass ceramic statuettes on the hall) or vibrant pieces of furniture (like the blue bedside table in the bedroom), that are carefully placed throughout this interior project (as is the designer’s way), and that stand out in these spaces without diminishing the overall feeling of calmness that the neutral palette provides. This is also what makes this project by Charles Zana a reference for timeless design, merging the tranquility and sophistication of the neutral colors with the character and excitement of the brighter ones. A Mix of Antique and Modern Furnishings In its true contemporary aesthetic, Charles Zana invests in a mix of antique and modern furniture arranged around the rooms with clear intention and curation. By this logic, the living room gets a modern marble center table that complements the more traditional velvet chairs, while the bedroom gets a beige velvety modern bed that contrasts with the turquoise retro bedside tables, which is further proof that this mix of furnishing works on two levels (on the one hand by complementation and on the other hand by contrast). This mix of furniture is clearly the key to this timeless design, combining classic and contemporary elements in a way that feels effortless and natural, and creating spaces that are both stylish and comfortable. A true masterpiece of timeless design In conclusion, this apartment by Charles Zana in Saint-Germain-des-Prés (Paris) is a true masterpiece of timeless design. The designer’s skillful combination of modern and traditional elements creates a project that feels both sophisticated and inviting, while his careful attention to detail ensures that every element implemented throughout the spaces works together harmoniously, in a way that just simply makes sense. This apartment by designer Charles Zana is a true inspiration for anyone looking to create a space that is both elegant and stylish while still ensuring that it will remain relevant for years to come. In this blog post, we’ll examine some of the best projects of this exclusive New York-based firm, Damon Liss Design. We’ll look at the process of designing dream homes for potential clients, viewing the various design choices made with millions of dollars on the Line. As Damon Liss, founder of Damon Liss Design, once said, “We do everything we can think of to make the design process easy and enjoyable for our clients.” High Line Penthouse The High Line is beautifully visible from this Chelsea apartment. The client of Damon’s agency requested that his art collection, displayed throughout the entire apartment, be integrated with the area. The design firm decided to decorate the flat with high-quality, contemporary furniture and vintage elements. Historic Townhouse This old townhouse in the middle of New York City was designed in a way that complements its structure perfectly. Here, elegant modern American classics are displayed in all their glory and various looks according to the home’s rooms. Designer Damon Liss assembled a chic fusion of antiques, retro decor, and modern furniture on the five levels of this spectacular property. 560 W. 24th Street Penthouse The unusual yet classically modern building is covered in limestone and has casement windows in French doors with bronze frames and beautiful balustrades: A marble Tiffany-style molding detail never before seen in a Downtown residential structure elegantly frames these windows through the cozy, round-the-clock foyer with Jacaranda wood-paneled walls. Enter the spectacular living/dining room, which runs the width of the structure, with six 8-foot-tall French door-style casement windows, about 10-foot ceilings, and expansive art walls. Westward facing is a nice balcony. A Rosa Levanto marble fireplace mantle may be found in the adjacent study. This New York Penthouse project, which is close to Times Square and the Empire State Building, features one of the most luxurious interior designs, with each room having its charming feeling. Hudson Street Loft This spectacular Hudson Penthouse is filled with the finest luxury and vibrant décor. Since the contemporary and modern designs are combined in another eclectic project, it approaches a masterpiece. In this living area, we can see that the decorator went with neutral colors, mixing various wood tones and adding a few brightly colored pieces to create the illusion of natural light. Tribeca Residence The duplex loft Damon Liss designed for his family is in Tribeca and has views of tranquil Duane Park. The smooth blending of modern and old furnishings contributes to Damon’s projects’ cozy, welcoming environment. A 1930s Danish chair with its original grey patinated leather sits next to a 1960s Martin Eisler chair with an olive velvet covering in the living room. Two Italian sconces surround the cut mohair upholstery wall from the 1950s and bespoke millwork library shelves. Besides the eclectic furniture, layers of plush rugs and fabrics, a soothing color scheme, and stunning artwork all help to make this apartment feel like a home. Now we can understand that the national interior design agency founded by Damon Liss is nationally recognized for the warmth, accessibility, and friendly service of a local atelier with a level of talent, artistry, and material resources available only through Manhattan’s top-tier, full-service design firms. How to Decorate With Art? Discover The Best Living Room Tips

Art adds personality, emotion, and visual interest! Discover how to decorate with Art to boost your living room project with an extra dose of character and beauty. Art is one of the beautiful human expressions; through creative skills and imagination, it reflects life, culture, and feelings. Decorating with Art echoes not just the magnificence of the Artwork but also its meanings and emotion. No matter the style – from Modern to Art Deco, an artistic vibe is always welcoming – especially in the living room, where it can be the perfect complement for an extra dose of personality and beauty. Adorning a space with Art can set the ideal mood, add an extra amount of visual interest, unify the colors in a room, and start exciting conversations. Art is a great way to add a unique flair, tell stories, and much more! To boost your living room design project, we have gathered some tips on how to decorate with Art and stunning ideas to inspire your upcoming projects. How to Decorate With Art? Art is incredibly beautiful and an excellent addition to any room – it adds a unique flair, visual interest, and an extra layer of story that any charming living room needs- but have you ever asked yourself how to decorate with Art? So, here you will find some steps to help you to boost your living room decor with the extra dose of character and uniqueness that an artwork can add! 1- Think about the room feeling! Art is all about feelings, so before selecting a specific artwork for your living room layout, the first step is to think about the feelings you want to achieve in the room! According to the sensations you are looking for – you can determine the type of Artwork that better suits the room´s needs. 2- Consider the color scheme With the room´s feelings in mind, we jump to the color scheme! When decorating with Art, you must ensure that it matches the color scheme. For that, you can work in two directions: the first is by selecting a piece that fits your living room palette, and the second is by thinking about the Art as the element that dictates the room concept. 3- Don´t forget the room´s composition Your art piece needs to follow room composition – for that, you can work similarly with the color scheme; the first is selecting an art piece according to the existing room´s set, and the second is by creating the composition centered in the Art that you selected! But the important thing here is that you must ensure a dialogue between the Art piece and the rest of your design choices. In this subject, you will plan how to use the Artwork in your layout. 4- Understand the Scale & Proportion Finally, the last requirement on our list: is scale and proportion! Before deciding which piece you will place in your living room project, knowing the right size and scale is imperative. These two principles are essential to balance the furniture and accessories with your Art piece. With these steps in mind, it will be much easier to decorate with Art and make your project stand out! Now, we can head to our last stop: the living room art ideas to inspire you to create a space that breathes Art and emotions. Read on! Living Room Art Ideas Decorating with Art is the best way to add a dose of personality to your living room projects and elevate it by bringing feelings, story, and beauty. No matter which style you are working on, these living room art ideas will help you to create a space that breathes character and charm; get inspired: 1- Make a Statement with an Artsy Furniture Art can be reflected differently – from painting, sculpture, and furniture! A stunning way to decorate with Art is by making a statement with artsy furniture – an exquisite coffee table, an impressive sideboard, or a charming side table. Besides boosting your living room layout with beauty and character, a piece of furniture will also have practical use in your design. In this charming living room signed by Simone Haag, the interior designer chose to stylish the room with the Picasso center table, an exquisite marquetry coffee table with an artistic pattern inspired by Pablo Picasso´s gorgeous work; the piece of furniture makes the statement that the spot needs while also creating a conversational area full of character that makes the statement that the room needs. 2- Mirror the Art in your Living Room Decor Another living room idea to decorate with Art is to mirror the Artwork into your decor. Starting your decor with a piece of Art gives you an immediate focal point and an instantaneous color palette, which makes the process much easier. In this colorful living room, everything started with Art; the designers Katie Glaister and Henry Miller-Robinson, from K&H Design, found the room decor inspiration in an oil painting that the homeowners already owned and loved. From the abstract Artwork, the professionals set the room´s vibe and color palette and search for the furniture that better composes the scheme; the result is a room with Art as a focal point and a charming and light atmosphere. 3- Tell a Story with the Artwork You can use the Artwork to create storytelling in your project and elevate it with more personality. We usually say that more than beautiful, an interior design should reflect meanings and stories; as one of the center rooms of any home, the living room is the perfect scenario to embrace beautiful tales. To create a living room that inspires, the architect David Mooney incorporates in this living room a linear theme that helps to create storytelling with the help of different painting, which also gives an extra dose of character and interest to the room; while keeping it personal and straightforward. 4- Anchor your Living Room with large-scale paint Another attractive way to decorate

Picasso Marquetry Pattern

Art Genius: Picasso Marquetry Pattern by HOMMÉS Studio

Picasso is shape, colors, and boldness in art form. Find out more about the Art Genius who inspired HOMMÉS Studio’s new furniture collection in marquetry pattern. Great names deserve great tributes. From the begging of the career to in-depth studies of art, learn more about Picasso, the artist behind some of the new pieces in the Art Genius Marquetry Collection. It is impossible to describe the art of the 20th century without mentioning Picasso, one of the greatest exponents of Modern Art. Born “Pablo Diego José Francisco de Paulo Juan Nepomuceno Maria de Los Remedios Críspin Crispiano Santíssima Trinidad Ruiz Y Picasso” in Malaga, Spain, this name would forever be remembered as one of the greatest references of the Cubist movement.  Each phase of his paintings was intimately connected to his state of mind, showing himself to be true to his emotions. In this article, find out more about the life, work, and style of this remarkable artist, who is part of the soul of HOMMÉS Studio’s new collection of marquetry pattern pieces.  Picasso: Life As Art Painter, sculptor, and designer, Picasso’s work has influenced and transformed generations. His talent for the arts was acquired at an early age, since his father, besides being a painter, also used to teach.  By the age of 13, he had already developed his drawing skills, and at 15 he painted his first painting entitled “The First Communion”. He was still a young teenager when his family moved to Barcelona, where he had the opportunity to enter the city’s School of Fine Arts. Years later and inspired by the radical movements that were breaking out at the time, Picasso decisively disrupted classical artistic methods – Renaissance and Baroque – and began what would become a lifelong process of experimentation and innovation. It was in Paris that the artist began, in fact, to make new connections. Living in the center of Modern Art and capital of the European avant-garde, Picasso began to learn about other styles and became famous for what he produced. Throughout his career as a painter, some periods stand out, the main ones being: The Blue Age Picasso’s first phase highlighted by historians takes place at the turn of the 20th century when the artist moved to Paris where he opened his first studio. With grief over the passing of his close friend, Carlos Casagemas, the artist portrayed scenes of desolation, loneliness, and anxiety, using mainly blue and green colors. His most famous works from the Blue Period include “Blue Nude (1902)” and “The Old Guitarist (1903)”.  The Pink Age Seduced by Cézanne’s works and after having significantly overcome the depression that affected him, the change in his state of mind was already perceptible in his art, with the introduction of more vibrant colors, such as beige, pink, and red. Picasso’s Rose Period (1904 – 1907) was marked mainly by circus themes and the lightness of brushstrokes. “Acrobat and Young Harlequin (1905)” and “Boy with a Pipe (1905)” are two examples. At this stage also, the artisan begins to devote himself to sculptures and etchings.  The African Influence, Cubism and Surrealism Between the years 1907 and 1909 African aesthetics became a powerful influence among European artists. It is in “Les Demoiselles d’Avignon” a painting that portrays five naked women with figures composed of different planes and faces inspired by Iberian sculpture and African masks that the Cubist movement emerged. When the painting first appeared, it was as if the “art world had collapsed”. With new techniques applied to painting and a break once and for all with classical French influences, alongside Georges Braque Picasso increasingly explores geometric elements and collages.  At once destructive and creative, Picasso’s work had the power to challenge viewers with compositions from multiple points of view, aiming to create different effects and sensations for those who observe them. “Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them like an artist”, as he used to say. It was during World War II that the artist painted, in protest, the horrors of war in the Basque city of Guernica (1937). The painting marks the beginning of the artistic movement Surrealism, which values the representation of the impulses of the subconscious.  How To Combine Picasso Marquetry Pattern in Home Decor As experts on the topic, we have brought you some inspirations of ambiances where more than functional, your furniture in Picasso pattern will be a true piece of art. Check it out: Since the items are tables, try using them in the living room as “key pieces” in Modern decor style, like catch-eye furniture. For a relaxed atmosphere, a Picasso Prisma Side Table alongside the Picasso Center Table will make any guest start a conversation. If the goal is to create striking interiors, then choose to combine its pieces with an upholstered set in more neutral tones to make the piece stand out. To complete the decor like a true professional, a beautiful rug will make everything lighter and more comfortable. The Melbourne project “Fenwick House” by Australian interior designer Simone Haag, for example, featured a version of the iconic piece, adding Picasso’s textures and bold geometric patterns to the composition of one of the rooms. Can you imagine waking up and going to sleep every day surrounded by the artistic inspiration of a genius of art? The selection of Picasso marquetry patterns also includes bedside and side tables to turn your personal sleeping space into a true oasis. Whether as a piece of furniture to support a bed headboard or to create a chill atmosphere, using a table inspired by the artist will certainly be the finishing touch to a Mid-Century or Modern Style. Picasso Marquetry Pattern Collection The Art Genius Collection is about art inspiring life, bold patterns, striking shapes, reviving aesthetics, and the pure expression of Artistic movements. With this in mind, nothing fairer than to pay a unique tribute to one of the most famous names who disrupted and innovated the art scene in

Art Deco Apartment in NYC, Michael Imperioli

Inside the Art Deco Apartment of The White Lotus actor, Michael Imperioli

The Art Deco Apartment in New York City was designed by his wife and interior designer, Victoria, and reflects everything the style calls for: art and glamour. Lights, camera… Action! Unlike the annoying tone of his most recent character in The White Lotus, Dominic Di Grasso, actor Michael Imperioli welcomed AD magazine to his art deco apartment with much enthusiasm. Check it all out in this post! Filled with artistic, musical and literary references, the star shows the two-bedroom accommodation in New York city  and quickly transports us into a world of complete passion. Take a look at the details of Michael Imperiolis’ Art Deco apartment: The “Behind-The-Scenes” Interior designer Married for 27 years and with grown children, the couple makes the most of the space where they live: an old hotel with classic flair and completely redesigned by the hands of Victoria Imperioli, his wife, interior designer and set designer. “I don’t need to tell her anything, she knows what I need,” says the actor about the fact that his wife has perfectly matched his extensive collection of artistic items in the space. The century-old apartment, which in the actor’s words is “a refuge from the world,” could easily be considered a gem from New York’s glorious Jazz Age, as it carries many references to the style in Art Deco. The past of the building, built in 1926, served as inspiration for Victoria, who designed the space as if it were “a beautiful hotel suite,” since spaces such as the living room was designed in shades of gray to highlight the works of art and the kitchen displays gorgeous arrangements in black and white marble. The Art Deco Apartment Inspiration: Geometric forms, angular lines, color patterns, curves, and a lot of glam are the primary distinguishing qualities of the Art Deco style in terms of furniture, aesthetics and design. This the art movement, which first appeared in Europe in the 1920s, also makes use of cubism, modernism, and neoclassicism as design cues. And it was with this audacious and at the same time sensual proposal that the interior designer designed the decoration of their own Art Deco apartment. The couple, who travel a lot, makes a point of always bringing works of art and antiques from wherever they visit. Among paintings and true relics, we can highlight the Testa di Moro, a ceramic piece acquired while Michael was filming the second season of The White Lotus in Taormina, Sicily. Among the acquisitions, the wallpaper used in the composition of the space was also saved until the best occasion. “If I see something exceptional, I will buy a lot of it. More kind of classically themed things, they’re sometimes a little bit hard to find.” says Victoria. With many elements in gold – a classic color that enhances the luxuriousness of the style -, textures in velvet and the use of metals in the detailing of the furniture, walking through this Art Deco apartment rooms is like getting lost in a 1920s Hollywood movie. In the main rooms we can highlight the living room, which invites us to admire a large German painting from the 19th century, and in the dining room, next to the beautiful French table and chairs, an unsigned oil painting of Santa Barbara. The kitchen, though small, was also almost completely remodeled when the Imperiolis moved in. Simple but functional, the cabinets that house the couple’s dishes were completely remade by the professional, who kept the birch wallpapers from Ukraine (her origins) until the opportunity to use them arrived. The choice of colors for the rooms was also carefully thought out. In Michael’s office, for example, where the actor spends much of his time between work and reading, it is possible to be immersed in a world of blues and greys, colors that stimulate intellectual activity. It is also where the star is dedicated to music and where he proudly displays part of his instrument collection, since he is also a member of the band “Zopa”, which released its first album in 2021. Colors are also a reference in the couple’s bedroom. With many details in yellow, the idea was that the symbolism of the sun – sometimes rare in the gray days of New York – would be comforting and create a warmer atmosphere upon waking up. Michael and Victoria, who have been practicing Buddhism for years, also have a special room for meditation practices. The so-called “Buddha Room” is a former closet that is now decorated in traditional yellow and red and houses religious “thangkas” paintings that Victoria brought back from a trip to Nepal in 2017. Finally, there is also the bathroom, the last part of the beautiful art deco apartment. With a “bélle epoque” vibe, the gold and metallic matches very well with the light tones of the tiles on the walls and the marble of the countertop with mirror. Once again, the interior designer good taste left the space elegant, useful and and irresistible, characteristics that best define the proposal of an art deco apartment.  Wow, what a wonderful tour through the art deco apartment of the star of The White Lotus series, Michael Imperioli. Between fabrics and juxtapositions, it is possible to feel the pleasure of each visual stimulus in each product. Life, pleasure, vibrancy, and luxury are just some of the many sensations that the Warm Color Collection brings to its lovers. Are you ready to fall in love? PINK The main shades that make up this product range are comprised of red, blue, and white. These three hues together make up passionate and gentle pink, a color that represents fierce feminine energy and has an uplifting effect.  Among the items in the new collection, it is possible to find versions of some of the brand’s beloved classics now also in warm colors, such as the Fifih Bench, the Ibiza Mirror, and the Matrioska Sideboard. ORANGE Another color capable of awakening our most intense feelings is orange. Synonymous with hope, this warm color carries a contagious optimism and fills any environment with beauty and joy. The fiery nature of the pigment goes well with brown aesthetics and earthy neutrals, creating a beautiful and cheerful atmosphere.  Among the new products, the contemporary Bossa Side Table –  with 70’s design influence – gets an orange version that, alongside the Billie Center Table in lacquer, adds a funky touch to bold living rooms. To complete the warm colors decor, HOMMÉS Studio also presents the retro lighting fixture with iconic eyeball shades, Miyake Floor Lamp, an authentic Mid-Century Modern piece. You can also find new versions for the classic Zadine Mirror, Jucca Dining Chair, and the Fifih Bench, upholstered in a warm orange fabric that suits any interior style. DUST Luxurious in its own right, this warm color joins the others in the sunny palette to add mystery and charming. Dust, as the name suggests, is an earthy ruby hue that is intriguing and fascinating at the same time.  Softly vibrant, this bleached red is perfect to pair with bold colors and soothing neutrals. Between burgundy and sandy shades, dusty tones add tranquility and timeless elegance to the room.  Among the pieces made for the collection with sunny colors we can highlight the Vonkli I, a Memphis-style armchair with a large seat, a small backrest, and a metal base with a gold finish. Also in Memphis style, the ruby version of the Fuschia II Side Table helps to bring an air of elegance to the space, with layers of brave shapes and bold textures. To complete the selection of warm 2023 colors, HOMMÉS Studio also presents the curvy and opulent shapes of Mykonos, a bold and iconic daybed that will seduce you and lead you to a bohemian lifestyle.  YELLOW Of course, HOMMÉS Studio’s 2023 warm colors collection couldn’t leave out the most cheerful color of all… Yellow! Owner of a bright and energizing atmosphere, this color is able to transform any environment and let your most sincere emotions flow. In the interior design, using elements with pops of yellow emphasizes all the boldness and brightness that this color offers.  Meet a bright and vivid version of the Ajui Armchair II and golden luxury piece for a luxury bedroom project, the Matrioska Chest of Drawers. As seen, sunny colors shape our outlook on the world and life, revealing the invisible power of visual stimuli that control our emotions. HOMMÉS Studio’s Modern Art Deco Penthouse In New York

The design studio redesigned and renovated a historic penthouse in New York. A modern art deco interior design project for a high-profile client. This luxurious penthouse in New York is a modern art deco interior design by HOMMÉS Studio. The design studio and furniture brand revamped the space and changed the dimensions, materials, and finishes of furniture, home accessories and lighting fixtures to create a high-end residential project where all textures, colors, and objects make the owner feel at home. The homeowner fell in love with HOMMÉS Studio’s furniture collection and wanted her new home, a penthouse in a 1930s New York residential building, to be fully fitted with furniture and home accessories from HOMMÉS Studio. With restrictions regarding the property’s bones, many products underwent changes to fit perfectly in each room. HOMMÉS Studio’s design team includes skilled interior designers, product designers, and visualizers who promptly designed the interior of this modern art deco penthouse. Entryway The stunning entryway of this modern art deco interior design project is a reinterpretation of timeless interior design styles, like Art Deco, Memphis Design style, or Mid-Century Modern, and merges them into cohesive aesthetics. A palette of classic colors known for its elegance highlights the design details of each furniture item – the black and white pedestal table with a sculptural foot, the grey and blue rug with an organic shape, the olive green stools with handcrafted details, the glassblowing modern art deco suspension lamp with green shades, the eclectic vase on top of the entryway table, and a shaped rug with Memphis Design Style flair as wall rug that makes a stunning first impression. Since the majority of furniture and fixtures fitted in the foyer is art deco style, the entryway has a lush look but a warm and welcoming feel. Using two rugs, one under the pedestal table and another on the wall, as an art piece, the design studio balances extravagant finishes from the custom suspension lamp and modern stools. Despite being ultra-glamorous, the layout of this modern art deco entryway encompasses essential items to create an entryway that makes a great first impression in any interior design style. Bedrooms The perfect disposition of the modern art deco rug by TAPIS Studio in the bedrooms remarks on the benefits of custom and bespoke furniture. The rugs with an irregular shape has changed its dimensions to fit perfectly in the modern art deco room. With the capacity to cover the floor from wall to wall, the rug is a refreshing floor covering solution that rivals conventional carpets. In a modern art deco bedroom thought-to-detail like this one, the area rug brings together bold shapes, a plethora of textures, and several design pieces with a strong character. Some of these pieces were also adapted to give the bedroom cohesive aesthetics. For instance, the Malala Dressing Table is adapted to fit perfectly in a nook within the four walls of this high-end bedroom. Usually larger, this dresser creates a beautiful and functional moment with a smaller version specially designed in a synergy between in-house interior and product designers. The room’s richness of details is extraordinary. The custom modern art deco wallpaper behind the bed’s headboard mimics the marquetry pattern of the two nightstands siding the luxurious bed. These nightstands reveal a curated choice from HOMMÉS Studio’s interior design team. To respect the room’s walls with round edges, the design studio picked out from the brand’s catalog a round nightstand that respects the room’s streamlined structure and gives a calming sense of motion. The main bedroom also makes the most out of a sophisticated rug by TAPIS Studio. In this room, this stunning piece is paired with other statement furniture designs by HOMMÉS Studio. The custom wallpaper behind the headboard is the backdrop for a modern bedroom with art deco, mid-century modern, and Memphis Design style furniture. The plethora of textures and shapes give the luxurious bedroom a whimsical atmosphere, as seen with the irregular Matrioska Nightstands matching the iconic Matrioska Chest Of Drawers. Designed to spend long hours in, this bedroom evokes quietness and healthfulness and has a cozy nook for reflection and relaxation. Dining Room and Living Room With an open plan that shelters the kitchen, dining room, and living room, this HOMMÉS Studio’s interior design project uses a color gradient to delimitate these three areas. Even though HOMMÉS Studio’s interior design team didn’t intervene in the kitchen, the design studio includes this ultra-minimalist area in a cluster of delightful natural pigments that gets more intense and warmer as we walk towards the living room, where elegant and passionate hues culminate. Starting from the all-white kitchen, the dining room is a swirl of cream, beige, taupe, and brown, leading to the living room, where sandy hues are combined with blush and scarlet pigments. Similarly to the entryway, the modern art deco dining area of this open plan designed by HOMMÉS Studio reinterprets timeless interior design styles. In the dining area, the long oval dining table with a marquetry table top and two contrasting legs is a sophisticated approach to Memphis Design style furniture. The elegant dining chairs obey the crips proportions of mid-century modern furniture, and the marvelous suspension lamp in hammered brass emanates a whimsical glow over the tablescape. With impeccable construction and a neutral color palette, HOMMÉS Studio’s interior design team creates an eating area that brings the luxe fine dining experience to any home. Reaching the living room, pristine whites, sandy beiges, and peachy pinks set a romantic atmosphere, perfect for a serene napping session, an evening reading a book or engaging conversations with loved ones. In this living room, modern and mid-century modern furniture with bold silhouettes design a scenario that looks sophisticated and feels comfortable. The bulky sofa is upholstered in cream fabric, and the corduroy armchairs are connected by two travertine coffee tables and side tables. All these features lay on a large rug with organic shape in white, beige, pink, and red, the predominant colors of this

Entryway in Art Deco Building by Peter Marino

Beautiful Parisian Art Deco Style Building by Peter Marino

In the late 1920s, architect Henri Sauvage oversaw the completion of a large art deco style building for the Parisian department store Samaritaine. A century later, this art deco building structure was redesigned for LVMH by Peter Marino, a member of the Interior Design Hall of Fame, who converted a piece of it into the luxurious hotel Cheval Blanc Paris. How to detect the Art Deco Style? Any genuine Art Deco style object has a narrative of its own. Perfect symmetry, numerous mirrors, rare and pricey wood, and elegance are all present. The elegance of your environment is not compromised by the feeling Art Deco style furnishings may give off. Wood, lacquer, marble, and metal are common building materials used to create Art Deco style furniture. Some designer clothes may include plastic accents or striking animal skin, which is a symbol of unbridled riches. Art Deco style is available in all forms of furniture. Which means that these lovely items may be used for a number of purposes while also adding to the overall attractive style of a person’s house. The high degree of quality that the Art Deco style also brought to its designs meant that they were long-lasting and would adorn homes and workplaces for many years. Modern-day Art Deco style furniture can be challenging to identify, especially if you are unfamiliar with it. You must be very careful when choosing a vendor because many will use the terms to describe anything that even somewhat resembles an authentic Art Deco piece. Since Art Deco style pieces are not considered antiques, their values are usually high, and prices reflect this. Instead, think about the item’s overall quality and the distinguishing characteristics that would identify it as an Art Deco style piece. These characteristics include specifics, themes, animal patterns, and inlaid materials (such as ivory and ebony), as well as shiny surfaces or even a glossy finish— the key element of a real Art Deco style design. It could not be an authentic Art Deco piece if it doesn’t have that shiny sheen. Hotel Cheval Blanc Paris, an example of the Art Deco Style The property’s 172,000 square feet, which includes 72 rooms and suites, is mindful of the art deco style building’s history and location, while also maintaining a contemporary edge in a rapidly developing metropolis. “We changed it without ignoring the existing legacy”, according to Marino, “The work of French artists and artisans was integrated into every aspect.” Vik Muniz’s modern 12-foot-tall replicas of the Eiffel Tower, which are in turn flanked by handmade gold-and-bronzed panels, contrast with the flooring of the main foyer, which integrates four distinct stones in a art deco style inspired by parquet de Versailles. In one of the four restaurants off the lobby, Marino’s red banquettes and chairs contrast with the room’s striking shell-inlaid wood walls. A Tony Cragg artwork made of corroded steel is surrounded by a beautiful stone staircase that connects floors. Below, a 100-foot swimming pool features custom mosaic tiles and walls of Bianco Sivec marble. Paris architect Édouard François led the building’s exterior architecture, including restoration of the historic facade, and helped create breathtaking vistas in every space. The views became central to the design experience created by Marino, including in another restaurant’s mezzanine, where guests can dine while gazing out at Pont Neuf. DO YOU LOVE INTERIOR DESIGN? Pacific-Palisades-a-home-where-light-and-art-reign-supreme3

Pacific Palisades home: where light and art reign supreme

A couple’s Pacific Palisades home, designed by Johnston Marklee and Studio Shamshiri, highlights their impressive art collection while enabling light to immerse the abode. The secret behind certain Pacific Palisades homes is breathtaking ocean vistas that make all the surrounding palm trees, pools, and velveteen lawns fade to grey. One such Pacific Palisades property, a Norman-style villa riff, has an austere limestone façade beneath a pitched metal roof and draws few stares from the street. It’s a new construction by Johnston Marklee, the renowned Los Angeles architecture practice formed in 1998 by Sharon Johnston and Mark Lee. Johnston and Lee are well-known for their private buildings, which are frequently reclusive mysteries on the outside and shapeshifting wonders on the inside. They have also left their mark in the Menil Drawing Institute in Houston, created for the Menil Collection and inaugurated in 2018. Putting Inspirations Together “Dominique de Menil was famous for wearing her fur jacket with the outside in, so no one would see the fur”, states an amused Lee with the oil heiress who founded the groundbreaking art museum with her husband John. It pleases him that a patron of such stature can be so low-key: her demeanor “has a certain normalcy on the outside that doesn’t betray something exciting inside – I think this is also what we’re trying to capture”, he adds. The duality aptly applies to Johnston Marklee’s new four-bedroom, 8,573-square-foot Pacific Palisades home. “On clear days, we can see the sand on the beach in Santa Monica”, discloses Clare Casademont, who bought the Pacific Palisades site in 2010 with her husband, Houston billionaire Michael Metz, after a long vacation in Los Angeles. However, it wasn’t until 2013 that they decided to replace the unremarkable stucco house with a unique design by Johnston Marklee. They met the architecture firm through the Menil Collection, of which Casademont is a trustee. And after hearing their brief – a relaxed second home for family, a space for art and antiques – the architects suggested the couple contact their friend Pamela Shamshiri, from the LA-based interior design firm Studio Shamshiri, whose work is widely known for its sensuality and elegance (also see its renovation of Ledgewood, a 1961 Robert Kennard house in the Hollywood Hills). And with that, the squad was finished. Designing with Art Casedemont and Metz have been art lovers for 30 years, and their preferences span from perception-altering modern sculpture by Simone Leigh, Robert Irwin, Olafur Eliasson, and Rosemarie Trockel to Deborah Roberts and Yayoi Kusama paintings and personal pieces on paper. Their designers foresaw a few difficulties. “Southern California is about views and light,” states Johnston. The clients wanted that, but they have a great art collection – and protecting the art was important. Deep skylights, sculptural in their own right, were built by Johnston Marklee to funnel sunlight down into the bow-shaped house’s center without bouncing off walls. The sliding doors open to the Pacific behind a large covered porch, while clerestory windows filter the light. One of the architects’ preferred features of the project was creating a design that was both open and secure, delineating areas but not in an airless, episodic manner. The objective was to see through from one area to another. “It was a great opportunity to have the design, art and architecture synergise,” Johnston claims. “And I know Pam really strived for that, too”.  See Also: A California Home by Katie Hodges Filled With Natural Light, Soft and Elegant Lines Casademont invited Shamshiri to view the de Menils’ Houston mansion, designed by Philip Johnson in 1950 for them. It was decorated by couturier Charles James, who produced sumptuous interiors that were far from fur-side in – imagine Demna Gvasalia taking on a John Pawson house today. According to Casademont, the mansion acquired a “spiritual motivator”. “It’s not that we were trying to duplicate what Philip Johnson did in that house for Mrs de Menil – it’s that they lived casually with great art”. Enter the Pacific Palisades House While acknowledging that art should still be the first thing you notice, Shamshiri and her creative director Taska Cleveland sought to domesticate it without diminishing its power. A panelled bar, for example, appears to be the pinnacle of civilization next to Robert Rauschenberg’s rough-edged cardboard collage in the dining room. In the private gallery, a geometric Jenny Holzer artwork floats on the shoulder of a plump Directoire bergère and a seven-sided ottoman based on a James design in the de Menil living room. Shamshiri was also interested in contemporary works by Vincenzo De Cotiis, Rogan Gregory, Jeff Zimmerman, and others that would stand their ground alongside the art while evoking some of the connoisseurship of the de Menils, who entertained Max Ernst and René Magritte in their glass-walled box in the early 1950s. Shamshiri recounts that more than anything else, “Clare and Michael wanted the house to be cosy. We really pushed for colour and texture – I thought the best way to achieve that mood would be in a more painterly way, rather than just having more things. It became an exercise of placing these eclectic objects within the pools of light, and introducing colour through that”. In the entry hall, a curved sofa by Martino Gamper glows with citrine brilliance beneath a whorled skylight. In Casademont’s dressing room, a yolk-yellow stool mirrors the oval oculus above it. An aloe-green René Herbst armchair sits beside a hall window, opposite to Doug Aitken’s mirror-faceted wall sculpture, both silhouetted against walls painted in Farrow & Ball’s Pavilion Gray. The silvery tint works especially well on the second level, which features prints and sketches. The pair will ultimately move in in December 2021 and, despite the project’s nine-year duration, Shamshiri discovers fresh beauty in it on a regular basis. ‘Sharon and Mark’s work is like a folly,’ she says. ‘It’s so heart-opening and enlightening – that sense of wonderment happens immediately. I was really humbled by both the art and the architecture.’ She
