Take a look at Cassie Arison's fully renovated home

Take a look at Cassie Arison’s fully renovated home.

Cassie Arison’s fully renovated home is a project made by Grade New York with the help of a Renzo Piano stylist. Despite its perfect location just north of Tribeca, SoHo’s far west side has always felt like an afterthought. Cassie Arison’s fully renovated home in the area presently known as Hudson Square is gritty and industrial, with a maze of warehouses and manufacturing buildings. It lacks the considerable foot traffic and fancy retail crowding of other adjacent locations. The sheer realism of Hudson Square has long appealed to Cassie Arison, a Miami-born, Tel Aviv-raised, creatively inclined publisher and philanthropist. “When I initially got to New York a decade ago, I lived in a loft on far west Broome Street,” Arison adds. Ted Arison, her grandpa, founded Carnival Cruise Line in 1972. “It was wonderful to be able to sit by the window and watch my family’s ships sail away.” – this was the inspiration for Cassie Arison’s fully renovated home.  Cassie Arison was dividing her time between New York and Israel, where her family owns several enterprises, and where she co-founded the AsPromised magazine, which focuses on Middle Eastern culture and design. Arison lives in a light-filled apartment in a restored 19th-century convent and hospital in Israel. The mansion Cassie Arison’s fully renovated home and rebuilt by minimalist British architect John Pawson, is located in Tel Aviv’s ancient, sea-front Jaffa district—the biblical-era port from which Jonah embarked on his doomed encounter with a whale. “My origins run deep into this Mediterranean aesthetic,” says Arison, referring to Israel’s combination of Ottoman, Arabian, and European design sensibilities – “I’ve always been fascinated by this juxtaposition between East and West and finding a middle ground between the two.” Cassie Arison’s fully renovated home became a need when she eventually returned to Hudson Square to a new glass-and-aluminum-clad structure built by AD100 architect Renzo Piano. With so much Israeli building leaning toward the modern and unique, Arison says she had hoped to settle in Manhattan in something more historic and prewar. However, the Piano pedigree and the versatility of a new-build tower proved alluring. In 2019, Arison and her husband, Niv Alexander, a former journalist and marketing director at the Jerusalem Foundation, and their red standard poodle June, closed on two homes to make one of them their permanent home. The apartments were located directly across the street from the Broome Street loft that first drew Arison to the neighborhood a decade ago.  Cassie Arison’s fully renovated home first proposal involved demolishing a part of the existing floor plan to create a bucolically calm glassed-in solarium, an aspiring vision on her side – she was ambitious. Still, she was also pragmatic and recognized she needed help (a lot of help). Edward Yedid and Thomas Hickey were the names behind the architecture and interior design firm Grade New York to help Arison. They carried out the most irreverent ideas with an open vision of what Arison asked. Provencal-inspired kitchen, boudoir dressing room, and solarium full of foliage were some of the ideas nominated. “I was a little all over the place with inspirations, so I wasn’t entirely sure Eddie and Thomas would take me seriously,” Arison says. “But they’re completely serious about their level of design and detail. Plus, they know the neighborhood and understand its energy. Everything just clicked.” Below you can see all the features of this Cassie Arison’s fully renovated home – in particular the kitchen and bathroom. Building the mandatory solarium at Cassie Arison’s fully renovated home that she had requested was perhaps the most challenging task for Yedid and Hickey – the duo behind the renovation. “We had to do some major internal rearranging while also incorporating and respecting the parameters of Piano’s design.,” says Yedid of the more complicated task assigned.  Cassie Arison’s fully renovated home has two fewer bedrooms than the original four, but it does include a bright living area that feels almost like a gallery filled with contemporary works of art. Dan Flavin’s (to Donna 6) from 1971 jumps out among the various pieces, a blue, pink, and yellow neon frame that fits nicely into one of the Piano windows. After a significant delay due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the finishing touches were in the works. “Eddie was begging us for just a little bit more time to move all of the furniture in and really make it perfect,” Arison adds. “The kitchen wasn’t ready yet, and construction men were still around, but we finally said, Enough and moved in.” The only thing missing is Arison’s family’s Carnival cruise ships traveling up and down the Hudson to various ports. She promises them that they will return. “I’m still growing into this apartment and planting deeper roots in New York,” she says in the meantime. “It feels very much like home.” These are some of the quotes regarding Cassie Arison’s fully renovated home that we can access. Dreamy and Modern Organic Home of Aimee Song in LA

Aimee Song’s Dreamy Modern Organic Home in LA

With a background in interior architecture, Aimee Song crafted a dreamy modern organic home in a historic neighborhood in the heart of LA. Aimee Song is a fashion entrepreneur, social media mogul, founder of Song of Style, and newly a mother. With a considerable amount of luck, she and her boyfriend Jacopo Moschin got a Spanish style home in a quiet and elegant neighborhood in the heart of LA. Those who arrive in the historic neighborhood, stay. For that reason, finding an available house in that exclusive location is rare. But Aimee and her boyfriend were lucky enough to get one right before the pandemic outbreak. The 1920s Spanish Style home had only housed one previous owner, an older couple looking to downsize from their family home, from who Aimee Song and Jacopo Moschin acquired the property. Despite the superb location and the great bones, Aimee Song felt the need to rethink the interior space of the house, since Spanish style homes tend to have some small rooms. And, in this case, Aimee Song’s home had a total of eight tiny rooms. With a background in interior architecture and the help of her father, this was the third time that the entrepreneur and fashionista alongside her father renovated a home together. Nevertheless, this time was unusually special – the father-and-daughter duo renovated a property for Aimee herself. AIMEE SONG’S DREAMY MODERN ORGANIC HOME IN LA The renovation process demanded some major changes. Walls were broken through in order to create an illuminated and flowy interior, as the architect and interior designer Antonio Forteleoni, who until recently worked as the design director at Kelly Wearstler, was brought into the dreamy modern organic home of Aimee Song in the heart of Los Angeles to help oversee the space planning, particularly for the primary bedroom and kitchen. Under Forteleoni’s guidance, the kitchen was the first room of the Spanish style home to get some love and care. Initially, the kitchen was half the size that it came to be – a double bigger and airy cooking space with a stunning kitchen island featuring a Calacatta Viola marble countertop. Drawing inspiration from their individual cultures, Aimee Song, an American, and Jacopo Moschin, an Italian, successfully merged their backgrounds to reimagine a space that fuses the Mediterranean flare and the Eastern design ethos. This residential interior design project isn’t simply Aimee Song and Jacopo Moschin’s dream home in a dreamy location – it is the house they built together. The baby nursery of their first child was held off for quite some time until Song’s nesting phase kicked in. Eventually, a walk-in-closet became was turned into a nursery. The dreamy modern organic home of Aimee Song has some features that highlight the Spanish style architecture of the property. Outdoors, the landscape has newly planted vine lines and a well-appointed outdoor living space. Indoors, neutral colors amplify the natural light and highlight the many pieces of vintage furniture, such as a 19th-century wood bench from China or the 19th-century chest of drawers from Korea. When redesigning the interior, an indoor-outdoor concept outlined many areas of the house, which is revealed In the breakfast nook where the first meal of the day with joined by the glowy sunlight. Around the house, the rooms are filled with organic materials, being predominant material. The dreamy modern organic home of Aimee Song is, indeed, a modern organic dream. There are many ways to enhance the space. For example, by choosing a mural with a layered design and assorted patterns is a great way to add color, depth, and texture to the room. To make a prominent statement, one can have a large-scale design on walls. These murals’ patterns can go from blousy florals to a landscape, an architectural wonder, or even abstract patterns. These can be incorporated into the painting, wallpaper, or tiles, or even with experimentation with materials like wood, concrete, brick, artboard, canvas, and clay. When allied with the space can create a huge visual and emotional appealing effect on every room. 1. Set Your Creativity Free With Paint With only the right inspiration and some basic painting skills, anyone can do their own mural. In this case, quality acrylic mural paints are the ideal choice. Choose paint with a matte or eggshell finish so that light doesn’t reflect off the mural. If you aren’t a pro in the topic, stenciling is a great mural technique because it can be simply done by buying a readymade design and transferring it to the wall, and painting over it. Colors are a good way to bring in captivating visuals in a space. In this image, for instance, the three-tone wall shows an amazing color layering effect, with completing shades taking over the wall. The rest of the interior is muted and the result is simply incredible, bold, and dramatic. With it, we can also exploit different paint finishes in the same hue with color drenching and monochromatic schemes, add a certain interest whilst remaining restful and uncluttered. In fact, wall murals, textures, and color blocking in harmonious tones help in terms of adding some character, color, and a sense of cohesion in open spaces. 2. Add Some Texture and Depth With Wall Murals Using wall murals is a way of adding some extra texture and depth but also a way to give the space a unique look. A wide variety of paints and even wallpaper ideas can do the deed. Some can help to create eye-catching Trompe-l’œil that makes even the smaller places bigger using per base shadows, proportion, and scale to create a mural that seems to be real. Textured paints and wallpapers bring some weight to the design and avoid the blank nondescript room, even in a minimalist style. It can give a certain degree of sophistication and capture the guest’s attention if you know how to choose the textures that complement each other and other elements to unify the room. Commission a Bespoke Painted Walls Mural Wall murals add color and life to a place and can be a fun alternative to larger pieces of art. This can be a great opportunity for grand-scale art and make the room look like no other. Even if you’re not a pro at painting a mural and have never picked up a paintbrush before, you can start on a smaller scale and work to eventually get to a bigger one, an indoor wall. Painted murals are different from curated art, based on the owner’s personality and background, and even if you like a more realistic landscape you can still choose to hand-paint directly on the walls instead of using wallpaper. In this example displayed here, we can see a heritage-inspired design plays well against the decorative framing and finishes and has the feeling that can be adapted to take advantage of the original home’s features. 4. Create an Illusion With A Mural Wallpaper Big murals are, obviously, eye-catching especially if you choose to add some depth of color and intricate detailing like, for instance, this dining room wall idea, that almost makes you feel like you are inside the mural. However, choosing a print that is so overwhelming can make the rest of the design an harder task to match everything as one. The trick is to let the mural’s color dictate the other colors used in the rest of the room. Pick one color on the mural design and sprinkle it across the scheme, on furniture, and other elements. Then, choose one main neutral one to keep the environment balanced. In this space, the black dining room table and chair serve as the foreground for the huge wall of art. The small tabletop element is scarry through the green tones, connecting the overall decor with the mural bringing the outdoor-indoor and creating a focus on the room. 5. Incorporate the Mural Design on the Ceiling Murals are not restricted

Peek Inside this 30’s Porto Town House Excitedly Renovated

This 1930 Porto house was recently completely renovated. We can only say that only the original wood floors and stairs remain. How exciting isn’t it? After multiple tries at renovating this place and giving it a second life and consequent abandonment, this 1930 house in Porto, Portugal, was finally finished by the local architecture studio, Ding Dong. The Porto firm’s founders Michael Miranda and Davide Gomes were called to intervene by the actual owner that fell in love with the 1930 house and wanted to bring back the old glory time but this time with a 21st-century vibe. The Porto designers kept the original Nordic pine floors and the staircase but demolished multiple walls to eliminate a series of cramped rooms and create a way modern and open floorplan. To achieve it they relocated the kitchen to the front in order to connect all the areas as one – the living, dining, and patio areas and create a better flow between them and invest in an entertaining zone in the back. For the interior design, the Porto design duo blended generously multiple eras’ inspiration to honor the origins while bringing it into the current century. For instance, they mixed some traditional elements such as coffered ceilings and wainscoting with sleek lines and geometric figures. In fact, the local designers confessed their love for mixing and matching historical design and contemporary art in the same design. At the end of the day, is all about balance! After the entryway, guests face a striking purple tapestry, a playful custom console, and warm oak paneling. The light wood walls carry through a narrow teal archway into the living space. It is decored with cozy furniture such as a sink-right-in Meridiani sofa, a Vincenzo De Cotiis sculptural seat, and a coral leather chair. Mirrored framing leads to the dining area, where checkerboard cement tiles act as a rug beneath the yellow metal table, 1943 Jens Risom chairs, and blow-glass Paopla Navone pendant. The designers opted to use a similar floor in this area to the one in service areas of this kind of house and one of them, Michael, even added that the fact of using tiles as a carpet derives from the importance they give to this area and the desire of making it different. Outside of the glass sliding doors, we can find a green courtyard which is a gem and pretty rare in a city like Porto. A leafy loquat shades the clinker brick pavers, while ivy climbs up the granite walls. In this area, they were expecting to create a very private and Nature cult environment that could be calming and relaxing like a hide-away from the world outside, and for that, they even add a small tank that keeps the water running. The main goal of this once 1930 house was the socialization given by the open-concept set up between these 3 areas – kitchen, living, and dining room. We can see that even in the kitchen with these mint green cabinets was fitted a breakfast nook for hosting. Friends can simply hang out on the built-in bench or sit on the chairs adjacent. The sofa is upholstered in aqua leather and tropical Lelièvre fabric, while the homeowner cooks with a Smeg oven. Can be also spotted a leopard motif wallpaper, fluted glass cabinets, and bronze hardware complete the room and give it a particular look. We can see a groovy eggplant-colored stairwell featuring a neon stripe as it directs upstairs leading to the primary bedroom, where blue, orange and beige tones mingle for a soothing result. The ensuite is similarly calm with a travertine sink, trapezoid-shaped tiles, and a spa-style shower. This once 1930s house after such renovation became a Portuguese oasis in all and every sense. What Is Wabi-Sabi and How To Design A Wabi-Sabi Home?

What is wabi-sabi? And how to design a wabi-sabi home? Discover the Japanese philosophy that became the most beloved interior design trend of the moment. WHAT IS WABI-SABI? Wabi-sabi is the most beloved interior design trend of the moment. The design style is the manifestation of wabi-sabi. This Japanese philosophy embraces a way of living deeply rooted in nature, finding beauty and purpose in natural imperfection and in the lifecycle of anything as it is with its flaws and all. Wabi-sabi is actually the combination of two words. Wabi means that kind of beauty found in asymmetry and roughness, like an unglazed handmade ceramic figure. It is simplicity, impermanence, flaws, and imperfection. Sabi is the beauty found in the passage of time, in someone or something’s aging landmarks, like wrinkles around the eyes or stains on the surface of an old mirror. It is the appreciation of becoming old. In this manner, wabi-sabi is a Japanese philosophy and interior design aesthetic that embraces the beauty of any substance or being in its most natural and raw form, giving a unique aesthetic and sense of comfort with simplicity. Wabi-sabi looks into life and into design as ‘imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete’.  WHAT IS WABI-SABI ARCHITECTURE & INTERIOR DESIGN? What is wabi-sabi when it comes to architecture? And how to design a wabi-sabi home? Japanese architecture always has been expressing the wabi-sabi way of living. As the philosophy of authenticity, wabi-sabi architecture and interior design contrasts with westernized beauty standards that seek unachievable and unnatural perfection. Wabi-sabi architecture and interior design’s archetypes are organic and sustainable materials, unglazed and unpolished finishes, as well as irregular, raw, flawed, textures. In a contemporary interpretation, wabi-sabi is the epitome of sustainable design and modern organic living. HOW TO DESIGN A WABI-SABI HOME? It’s hard to tell how to design a wabi-sabi home due to what is wabi-sabi philosophy. Nature and authenticity have no rules – and wabi-sabi interior design is all about nature’s rules. Nevertheless, there are essential features to designing a wabi-sabi home that will lead to homes more real, pure, honest. Homes with a more peaceful and immersive ambiance, and a stronger synergy between individuals and objects. The guidelines to design a wabi-sabi home start from a minimalist aesthetic, a pale color palette, organic materials, and rough textures. With all the popularity and healthful reputation, here is how to design a wabi-sabi home. 1. ORGANIC MATERIALS An interior design can only be wabi-sabi if its building materials, furniture, and decorative objects are organic, sustainable, and are as harmless as possible to the surrounding fauna and flora. Furthermore, using local materials for construction is a great architectonic practice. 2. DECOR WITH BRUTALIST FURNITURE Brutalist furniture is the best furniture design style to decorate a wabi-sabi home. Tree trunks are great for dining, coffee, and side tables. The brutalist furniture style is incredibly versatile – you can find it either in a minimalist or maximalist interior design project. 3. BE COLOR MODEST It is very unlikely to find a color palette more respectful of nature and its shapes and textures than neutral hues. Respect the natural tones of each wall, each object, each fabric, and – most importantly – its decoloring over time. 4. LOOK FOR VINTAGE TREASURES Wabi-sabi looks tenderly into objects with history and its aging marks are highly appreciated. Decor your wabi-sabi home with vintage furniture, pre-owned. It can be a good leather sofa, a wood rocking chair, or a standing wall mirror. Vintage objects are meaningful and sustainable – on one hand, they’ve been meaningful to someone before, on another hand, they’re sustainable. 5. ADD ONE-OF-A-KIND DECORATIONS Handmade objects are great options to design a wabi-sabi home. They’re often unrepeatable, having unique features. A made-to-order decor piece or customizable furniture strengths the connection between you and the objects you inhabit with. 6. MAKE YOUR INTERIOR DESIGN IMPERMANENT WITH PLANTS Adding greenery to your wabi-sabi home will enhance the principles of ‘imperfect, impermanent, incomplete. Indoor gardens are an ever-evolving interior design element. ARE YOU INTO INTERIOR DESIGN? If so, discover modern furniture and lighting designed by design lovers for design lovers. 12 Bedroom Ideas That Prove That Beige Can Be Exciting And In Vogue

If you’re looking for a calm and unwind space don’t look further. We will present you some bedroom ideas with this color that easy everywhere up. For a long time, beige bedroom ideas were a popular choice for interior decorators and stylists. However, as the times changed, people started experiencing different things, new trends emerge and this overall taste and panorama changed with it. This color that used to be so popular became a bit outdated and slowly gained a bad and, honestly unfair, reputation for being well, rather boring. The time passed and the game turned again and, to be honest, the beige has never been so popular as now. The reason is pretty simple: the beige decor is calm, soothing, and timeless. It can be adapted and work with different schemes to achieve from the more casual to the more sophisticated looks which can easily and effortlessly be played around on the desired quantity to achieve the end results. The usage of this neutral color obviously is an advantage not only if you aim for a calmer effect but especially if you want to add some pop of color without being too much. It is very much a chameleon, switching moods with different hues. Can be added some other depth and dimensions with a dark brown or even black or thrown in a dash of vibrant green or red for some boldness. In the current days, there is an extreme cult of warm and earthy neutral tones in which one of the derived colors is beige as Patrick O’Donnell, the Farrow & Ball ambassador stated. According to himself, this color is the perfect match for those who are looking for a relaxing bedroom scheme, and discreet yellow or green undertones give it the flexibility to layer with other shades. If you’re still not convinced we will share with you some inspirations and beige bedroom ideas: 1) Use Beige to Form a Textured Headboard Usually, when we think about introducing color to the design, we automatically think about putting it in the walls or fabrics and texture plays an important role in the bedroom design and shouldn’t be unestimated. There are many headboard ideas that might be an interesting starting point to include this color on the design especially if you are considering a more upholstery approach that not only complements practically every scheme but can also be an interesting focal point like in this design by Hommes studio. 2) Go For an Beige-scheme Everywhere to Achieve a Sanctuary-like Feel Once you decide to go for the all-beige look, committing your bedroom ideas entirely to the color can yield surprising results. Taking this color all over the place from the curtains to the headboard and even on the rug, helps to blur lines and make the room looks more cohesive and calming. This is an amazing way to make a smaller bedroom look bigger. The key here to make it soft and welcoming in our interiors lay in the use of warm, beige tones in different materials, textures and depth according to Francesca Finotti of Framework Studio. An all-over beige scheme also helps harness natural light during the day, while becoming cozy and cocooning at night. 3) Add Beige on the Cabinetry to Help Soften the Space Beige cabinetry, whether it is painted, paper, or fabric-covered, can help promote a calm atmosphere in a bedroom, especially when mixed with other neutral tones, which is most definitely one of the bedroom ideas to keep the eyes on. The trick is to keep it simple on your bedroom with a neutral color palette that doesn’t distract or stimulate your brain, think, for instance, white, beige, taupe, and grey and work them as a black canvas to pair with bold accents or to create a calm, understated scheme. 4) Build in a Vibrant Shade for An Energetic Contrast Beige is a neutral color that gives the opportunity to play around with certain tones such as reds, pinks, corals, and even browns. These vibrant colors will energize and modernize the space and take the decor to another level and make it exciting. This color is warmer than white and easily worked in harmony with rustic or wooden pieces, for example. 5) Use Beige as a Backfrop for Decorative Ceilings The ceiling is a part of the room most of the time forgotten but this color can bring to life. A decorative ceiling is one of our bedroom ideas whether painted or wallpapered can make a huge difference and cause a “wow” effect in any room. In fact, having beige walls and bedding helps to create a stage for a striking ceiling to take center stage. 6) Add a Patterned Wallpaper to Add Interest Having a beige bedroom is not all about the painting. The color can be incorporated in different ways into the scheme with wallpaper ideas, but to add some interest, choose one with some pattern that will help to lift the look. 7) Play With Symmetry to Give a More Relaxing Feel We know that a beige interior can create a relaxing feel, this can be boosted by adding some symmetry to the decoration. Indeed, symmetry is a very much important factor in interior design because it creates a sense of balance and harmony as well as calm in the room. This can be achieved by the furniture placement – by taking the focal point of a room and working outwards mirroring either side of it. The trick is especially useful in smaller bedrooms and should be used in conjunction with beige to create a bigger space. 8) Choose It as a Window Dressing Foil For Richer Colors Simple or more extravagant. It doesn’t matter! Beige window dressings are not only functional but bring softness and texture to the space. 9) Get a Textured Wall Finish for a Certain Variaty of Tones and Add Interest Textured walls has been became more and more popular and definitely something you should consider

Salone Del Mobile 2022 – Getting Ready For iSaloni 2022

The 60th edition of Salone del Mobile 2022 is back at Milano Fairgrounds on the Milan Design Week. After a one-year hiatus due to the pandemic that restrained our personal and professional lives, Salone del Mobile 2021 showed up in the industry’s scenario with a concept completely different from what Salone del Mobile Milano was known. The rebranded Supersalone 2021 took place in September, as usual, alongside Milan Design Week. This celebration is a compilation of talks, events, and exhibitions marking Milan as an art and design incubator city for a week. In 2022, Milan Design Week and Salone del Mobile will happen on 7-12 June to ensure the strong presence of foreign exhibitors, visitors, and professionals at what is the world’s largest and most important furniture fair. This year’s edition theme is sustainability. Salone del Mobile 60th edition celebrates the event itself at the same time it acts as a showcase for the industry’s progress. Let’s get ready for Milan Design Week 2022. SALONE DEL MOBILE 2022 Salone del Mobile 2022 will happen on 7-12 June. Usually happening in April, the decision to postpone the largest and most important furniture fair in the world happens for two reasons. First, there’s a need to get in line with all the industry’s big events (for instance, Maison & Objet is in happening in March 2022 instead of the expected month of January). Secondly, the organization aims to have an event as big as before the pandemic, returning to full capacity. June is believed to be the best date to gather visitors, exhibitors, traders, and artists all on the same fairground with maximum precaution and safety. 60th EDITION SALONE DEL MOBILE The 60th edition of Salone del Mobile on 7-12 June 2022 is all about sustainability. In this year’s event, the organization aims to kickstart a movement, make a change in the industry, and create a design community that doesn’t pursue sustainable practices but a design community that invents them. iSaloni organization has distributed guidelines to exhibitors. For Salone del Mobile 2022 these guidelines are just it, good practices that professionals should follow. Nevertheless, the organization expects to open the doors to turn these guidelines into rules in the near future. Some of the recommendations are the kind of materials that should be used on exhibitors’ stands, preferably biodegradable, reusable, and recycled materials with low environmental impact or with FSC and PEFC certification, as well as the best lighting to use in order to reduce waste of energy, and even efficient supply chain logistic processes, and better practiced on catering. Additionally, the Salone del Mobile 2022 edition is promoting a campaign to avoid food waste and battle hunger and poverty. The organization and exhibitors are donating to the UN World Food Program. MARIO CUCINELLA ARCHITECTS CELEBRATES SUSTAINABILITY To celebrate the 60th edition of Salone del Mobile, Mario Cucinella Architects created Design With Nature, an installation that will be found in Hall 15 of S.Project: 1,400 square meters will tell the story of a virtuous ecosystem that represents the future of life.  Cucinella’s installation will address three topics – the ecological transition, the evolution of housing, and urban mining. Once the exhibition is over, each room of Design With Nature (a library, a classroom, a small auditorium, etc.) that makes up the installation will be converted to other places in Italy for its specific function. Discover this mid-century modern home- the proof of how monochrome can be exciting

This mid-century black-and-white house we present you today is located in Bel Air and was decorated by David Brian Sanders A premium location with a touch of period charm is normally a dream combination during the house search. Although, is not always that this goal can be achieved, at least is not that easy and the risk of taking older properties can come up with unexpected complications and unseen at the first sight renovations needs and some changes in the overall plan. When the record company executive Rick Krim and his wife Elaine found a tired 50s’ home in Bel Air, in California they felt the huge potential of this house but, for sure, needed a lot of changes to become their dream house, which asked for the interior designer David Brian Sander’s and his team intervention to give a new life to this place with a contemporary flair and some elegant and different touches on the decor. 12 months later they had already radically changed the house and were relieved for embracing the ideas the designer presented and going through the monochrome interior design space that at first can seem boring but end up being an amazing and a total match to the new owners’ expectations. This 1952 home can be inserted on the mid-century modern style field regarding the design choices with multiple outstanding architectural features, such as the original A-Frame roof design over the front door, but a series of additions over the years were considered less desirable in this new owners’ perspective which implied some extra work to eliminate this parts and turn this house their home and a total paradise of the earth for them. Initially, the plan was to do a light renovation and the extremely needed changes but still keep some of the original integrity. However, as the demolition work began, “layers and layers” of materials were brought to light, layers that had been added to the site over several decades. For instance, the three previous owners had tried to renovate this place in a piecemeal fashion with varying degrees of success. When seeing this place who could imagine what it turned out to be: a complete mid-century modern monochrome interior decorated home. The construction team, A-Z Builds, faced multiple issues and challenges almost daily to bring this vision out of paper and turn it into reality. The home’s unexpected issues and secrets meant that it has to be peeled most of the skin almost entirely back to the bones which incentivize the team to go all in and do it fully. Teamed up with the architecture firm Fisher Fairmount Design, Sanders and his team worked to preserve most of the historical details as possible during the renovation but upgraded it for the current century. New smart touches such as custom windows and cedar cladding on the facade, while the interiors are a lesson in how the monochrome can still be exciting and current. Perhaps unsurprisingly, Rick’s favorite space is the media theatre as it can be either his refuge or place of work. Although, for him, it is not exactly work if he likes what he is doing which is and probably is why he likes the place so much. Again, this David Brian Sanders project shows that monochrome interior design is not entirely boring and can still be exciting, current, and unique. ARE YOU INTO INTERIOR DESIGN?
