This royal residence was designed by LA designer Timothy Corrigan. The elegant palatial home is located in Doha’s West Bay Lagoon and belongs to a prominent member of the Qatari royal family, His Excellency Sheikh Mohamed bin Fahed Al-Thani. The Sheikh’s vision was to have a design inspired by the “classic 1920’s Palm Beach houses,” sophisticated but timeless. The design was in excellent and familiar hands of Timothy Corrigan, who had previously worked with the family on other projects and done an amazing job. Corrigan began the design very early on, since the house was being constructed, and his ideas about the interior design of the palatial home were developed from scratch to achieve the desired look. Taking inspiration from the Floridian architects like Addison Mizner and Maurice Fatio, brought the Mediterranean-inspired, brightly decorated details to every part of the interior design.  Helping to materialize the concept was Corrigan’s love for Palm Beach houses of the 1920s and 1930s. The relaxed sophistication, glamour, and beautifully matching colors made this project in Doha resemble a place that brings delightful, glamorous people and feels to mind. The concept had a gorgeous palette that embraces the golden beiges, beautiful rich blues, and soft shell pinks. In a way, these colors brought the sea and beach feel inside this royal residence. The elements added to bring out the true idea for the house were a few, such as the painted murals, gold leaf, handmade wallpapers, and much more. The combinations of various textures and colors create a balanced harmony you never seem to get enough of. Many of the furniture pieces were custom made, and the mix of antique and modern pieces surely emphasized on functionality in the most luxurious way. The designer went for marine varnish, even in the finest of antique pieces, to allow everyday usage of the materials and pieces rather than preserve them as pieces that appeared to be in a museum and unable to live in. And that was a standard adaption for the interior design throughout the whole house. It had to be livable and functional while also being majestical and unique in its design. In the hands of two professional enthusiasts of interior design and true art and design lovers, this Haussmannian home transformed beautifully with the furniture selected. The two Canadians that took charge of their own home design, John Gerhardt, global creative director at Moët Hennessy, and his husband, Boris Masip, a fintech entrepreneur, fell in love with the apartment’s original structure as soon as they entered, even though the apartment was not located in what they first thought would be the neighborhood they planned to settle in, in Paris.  Haussmannian Home Allure The magical Haussmannian home called their attention and lured them immediately in. Now, after two years, the couple couldn’t be happier with their choice. The apartment is beautiful, has amazing views and incredible natural lighting throughout the day, especially in the afternoon, and after furnishing the way they like, it looks exactly how they imagined it would be, modern and filled with pieces that combine and match and are chosen by them.  Strategically following a designer’s quote, they both believe in “buy what you love, and you will always find a place to fit it in” the couple has explored their own style. The chosen pieces reflect their identity and what they like to represent through their apartment.  When designing their Haussmannian home, they wanted to emphasize the details of the space by adding furniture they loved and that also matched with the rest of the house. Although each has its own favorite spot in the house, the living room is the most welcoming area of the apartment. They are both great hosts and love to be in company and entertain their most loved ones. They aim to make their guests feel included and part of their home. And it needs to be as friendly and reflective of their personalities as possible.  The Bernhardt sofa purchased at Kiosk in Toronto is the centerpiece of the living room, positioned in front of the fireplace. It is the piece that puts together all the other furniture, the handpicked pieces from different countries the couple lived in or visited. ​​The pillows are from a Belgian shop called the Corner Studio. The antique gilt mirror is from the Paris Flea Market, while the geometric rug by the Rug Company puts together the look of the living room. Gerhardt loves the dining room area. For him, that’s the space he most loves, where after they cook and eat while they entertain their guests, everyone can be careless and just enjoy the conversations and great company. On the other hand, Masip loves the den. For him, that space represents an apartment area where he can freely work, read and simultaneously enjoy the delightful views of the mesmerizing city. The kitchen, on the other hand, although commonly a small space in the average Parisian apartment, is a comfortable size in the Haussmannian home of the couple, offering not only a functional space but also giving them the option to improve and decorate it the way they like. This historic renovated house in Sidney, designed by the Australian studio Due, has a flawless combination of old and new, a colorful interior, and charming details that rescue its history. A home with history and full of beauty – it’s the perfect resume for this fantastic house in Sidney. Inspired by the Tudor style, this property from 1916 has an impressive background history; it was published in Decoration Glass magazine in 1937 and was home to the Australian tennis champion Daphne Akhurst. With more than 100 years of history – this house was the background of many narratives and a home for distinct families. Through the years, the space has received some interventions to accommodate the new residents and their styles – which suddenly stripped the original beauty of the space. Even with modifications, this house in Sidney captived the current owners, that fell in love with its history. To honor the roots of this historic house, the owners contact the Australian Duet studio to design the renovation. An important project that became the first work of Dominique Brammah and Shannon Shlom as studio co-owners and highlighted the house’s historic character. The renovation also counted with the AJH+ Architects and Studio Rewild, the project took 16 months to be finished. The layout of this stunning house in Sidney has two floors that accommodate two kitchens, an open living space, a formal dining room, a charming playroom, and five bedrooms. After the renovation, a new sculptural staircase was added, giving a touch of glam and integrating the space. To preserve the house’s history, the designers and owners decided to highlight some elements, such as moldings, cornices, curved walls, and arches. Brammah and Shlom worked on a visual continuity blending the past with new textures and warm elements to enhance these details. More than rescuing the house’s history and preserving its roots, the interior design project of the renovation integrated the family needs into a home that can change over time. As a result, the house has many areas that can fit entertaining and be reduced for a sense of refugee.
