Usually, mirrored walls in the interior are used to enlarge a small space visually. However, that is not all they can do. We learned from the top designers what other decorative and practical tasks they solved with the help of mirrors. Keep reading to discover.
From the 1970s to the 1990s, mirrored walls were the star of any room – and there is a reason why. They can add depth to a room and make it more inviting and spacious. But more than that, they are a functional acquisition for a modern home. In this article, we gathered some creative ways that top interior designers used mirrored walls in their projects. Now, it´s time to you get inspired for your home update.
BLUR THE BOUNDARIES OF THE ROOM
There are many mirrors in this project by Katy Ryzhova and Elena Tokmacheva. Let us start with the dining room. In this space, the table stands against a large mirrored wall, and it seems that it is twice as large. Additionally, they visually increase the space, create the illusion of a long table, and avoid a joint between the tabletop and the wall. In the bedroom, the designers get rid of all the doors and erase the border between the bathroom and the room. Here the wardrobe, where the bed is hidden, and the bathroom are decorated with mirrored walls.
This is one of the favorite projects Olga Ashby and her team. They received carte blanche from clients, but the spectacular mirrored wall was a controversial point. The extraordinary view characteristics of the apartment were the main reason for its acquisition. The proportions of space have also visually changed. For safety and ease of installation, the tempered glass mirror sheet was divided into parts, and the boundaries were marked with brass.
CREATE AN OPTICAL ILLUSION
Designer Timofey Veresnovsky misrepresented the audience by making a mirrored arched opening. It seems that there is another room behind it, but it is a symmetrical reflection of the living room. This apartment is small, but the mirrored opening multiplies the windows, and the shiny ceiling creates the illusion that this is a spacious hall.
Nevertheless, interior designer Daria Vasilkova, Art Group bureau founder, managed to create the illusion with a mirrored canvas and neon lighting. She can give a fragment of a contemporary art gallery in this corridor. The mirrored wall visually enlarges the space and sets a unique geometry.

MAKE THE MIRROR A STATEMENT OF ART
These designs by Hommés Studio show how to create a statement of art using mirrored walls. Safari Dining Room portraits, warm colors, and organic elements join forces to present a comfortable and timeless dining experience, featuring wood and metals, including natural fibers details. Living reflection, inspired by the iconic apartment of Yves Saint Laurent is treasure trove of extraordinary new and old objects, and is perfect for an art collector. This apartment in Paris is inspired by art deco as the use of bright colors, floral details, and furniture with geometric lines is evident. Surrender to this area and fall in love with the little details that transform this living room into a luxurious and opulent space.

MAKE THE SPACE BRIGHTER
Even though Natalya Popova’s house has big windows, there is not enough light on the ground floor. By making the wall behind the sofa mirrored, Natalia got a double effect. Glass doors, windows, and trees are reflected in it, so nature seems to enter the house, and the reflected light makes the space brighter. The antique mirror gives depth, and it seems as if something invisible escapes the view, and you want to dive into the reflection.

ADD SPLENDOR TO A SMALL ROOM
In Polina Pidtsan’s project, the mirror panel used to decorate the wall in the hallway has several functions. Firstly, decorative. The mirror elements are made with the addition of gold dust and framed with brass. And, of course, practical.
Designer Kira Chuveleva also used mirrors to enlarge the small space and create a luxurious atmosphere visually. The concept in this space is an oriental fairy tale and a luxurious bedroom. They could not use ordinary mirrors: they give a too sharp and modern picture.

CREATE A ROMANTIC ATMOSPHERE
The name of the residential complex “Garden Quarters” became the starting point for the interior concept for the designer Masha Kunyakina. Here is how the designer describes it: “Everything here seems to be covered with snow, and there are no active colors, so rhythmic mirrored walls come to the front, creating a feeling of air and volume in a small room.”
