Kelly Wearstler embellished the world once more with her most recent project – The Santa Monica Proper Hotel.
The designer was challenged to adapt a 1928 Arthur E. Harvey building into a new 271 room luxury hotel, reflecting its surrounding geography and history, capturing spanish and moorish details that would accentuate the building’s original architecture.
The Santa Monica Proper Hotel furnishings are an aesthetically pleasing melange of natural wood, textural patterns and luxurious marble, which offers a very nature-inspired color palette, with finishes in warm buttery shades, a nod to sand and desert.
In every Kelly Wearstler the Queen of Hospitality’s project we can expect bold spaces, unique shapes and an abundance of pattern play.
We can see pattern on pattern, eccentric shapes, brushed silver and gold accents, which represents the contemporary twist of the well-known designer’s signature.
Kelly believes that the secret behind each project remains in creating a story, having elements of new and old coming together, with a relaxed but sophisticated sensibility.
Interesting to know her passion for flea-markets. These are the places where she collects some vintage finds to introduce in the story’s project as an inspiration.
Also, for Wearstler, commissioning pieces by local artists is key to create a sense of soul within all the spaces.
