Take a look at some of our tips on how you can transform your home’s central room into something much more refined, such as a minimalist living room, using a few of these simple tricks.

1- Less is more
Minimalism is all about being as minimal as possible, obviously, which means that a minimalist living room can’t be overflowing with furniture, which would make the room feel overcrowded and hard to function with.
Even though minimalism is often seen as cold, empty, and boring, when done right, a minimalist living room can be less visually stressful, easier to clean, and even remain fashionable for a longer time than other design styles.
Instead, focus your efforts on the essential, and make sure to leave plenty of room in between pieces of furniture to make an emphasis on the spacious, bright, and functional aspects of your minimalist living room.

2-No need to be Flashy
When it comes to making a minimalist dining room, your best option for colors would be a neutral color palette, with a strong emphasis on beige, white, grey, and black, however, if you want to make something stand out a bit more, feel free to use subtle tones like blue, brown or green.
A minimalist living room needs to transmit a sense of peace and quiet, so avoid using loud colors like red and other vibrant colors and elements that draw too much attention to themselves, like flashy chandeliers and other magnanimous pieces.

3-Simple, clean shapes are all you need
If you look at any minimalist project anywhere, one of the main themes you’ll see everywhere, whether it’s in the furniture or in the decor, is that every piece included should feature clean, simple lines and shapes, like sharp edges or soft curves that won’t get in your way.
This doesn’t mean your minimalist living room needs to be boring or overly simple; there are still plenty of ways you can decorate the room while still following this design philosophy, such as using simple shapes and combining unique elements and details like in the picture above.

4-Use simple and minimal art pieces
Although loud decor isn’t the main goal of this particular design style, there is no issue in placing an art piece on the wall, as long as it doesn’t stray from the minimalistic philosophy you have adopted so far.
This means that if you choose, for example, a painting to place in your minimalist living room, the painting should feature neutral colors and simple shapes, like we mentioned before, so maybe you could even consider using a more abstract art piece.

5-Keep the surfaces clutter-free and ready to use
Minimalism disincentivizes the overuse of decorative elements, which means that you should choose only a few things to put on top of a table or another piece of furniture, and you should also avoid overusing decorative pieces that would otherwise pollute the overall minimalistic aesthetic.
Ideally, your room should only have one or two decorative pieces visible per piece of furniture/decor, so you should choose to invest in furniture with hidden cabinets, or open shelving to store objects and reduce visual noise to a minimum.

6-Functionality is key!
A truly minimalist living room will be optimally using the space it has at all times, which means that you should focus on using practical and low-profile furniture to maximize functionality and comfort.
This room is a great example of this concept, since it uses a cellar not only as a decorative piece, but also as a practical way to save space, and it also uses a low-profile table, which makes it occupy much less space and gives the room an overall much more ample look.

7- Incorporate nature in your room
Your minimalist living room should also have a lot of room to breathe and let some natural light and fresh air inside by having large windows without any heavy curtains, and even mirrors to give the overall room a more spacious feel.
The room above is a great example of how a beautiful connection with nature can make a minimalist living room that much more full of life and energy, all by simply having a way to open the room and let nature blow you away.
